I recently heard that if you bulk up and get quite bloated, then you diet down, the fat cells you have created never go away they are just empty and shrink, then you are more prone to storing fat in the future... apparantly GH is the only thing other than surgery which can get rid of them. Any truth to this?
It dosen't seem to effect lee priest lol

Yes I think that's true. It is also mostly decided by how fit/obese you are as young.

i was always fit when i was younger due to playing alot of soccer/rugby but chubby also. :-X

Once a fat cell is made, it does not go away. It enlarges or shrinks.
you can have them taken out though.
-
yop a lipo gets the job done.
-
Yes, they only Shrink.
-
i heard they only shrink
-
lipo may remove fat cells but if you dont change your nutrition the others just get bigger
-
as others said, they shrink but the only way to remove is liposuction.

Not sure about cells, but fat people are all around us and will never go away.

All of the responses thus far are false. Cell Apoptosis can occur if one remains in a caloric deficit for an extended period of time.
-
There are also considerable findings regarding Adipose apoptosis with the induction of Leptin.
-
Also, on a side note, just recently we learned that new cells in the heart are created. Not so new, but contrary to old thinking, we also have learned that brain cells are not finite and new ones can also be created.
-
I'm not a cell biologist, but why would the body waste energy to keep unrequired fat cells? Are they somehow immortal or is this just more myths and legends from Flex magazine?

Here is one of many papers if anyone is interested.

Leptin-induced adipose apoptosis: Implications for body weight regulation.
Department of Animal and Dairy Science, University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602, USA.
Great strides have been made in understanding the genetics of body weight regulation, in part due to the study of rodent models of obesity that are characterized by mutations affecting leptin or its receptors. Leptin, produced in adipose tissue, acts both centrally and peripherally to orchestrate complex metabolic and behavioral changes that increase loss of adipose tissue, including suppressing food intake and increasing thermogenesis. In addition, recent evidence indicates that leptin acts centrally to trigger an apoptotic process resulting in adipocyte deletion. Loss of adipocytes by apoptosis may provide an explanation for the unexpected delay in return to initial energy status following leptin treatments. This review summarizes the major aspects of leptin-induced adipose tissue apoptosis, including some of the newest findings about possible mechanisms of action.

The number of fat cells stays the same they just get larger or smaller depending on your circumstances. Lipo suction will get rid of them though.
-
I think it's testosterone or maybe it's gh, but anyway, one of them can convert adipocytes to myocytes
-
i dont believe gh or test does it...pgf2a does it though.... commonly known as lutalyse... google it.. same thing as PGCL... which im sure some remember gh15 referncing to in regards to trey brewer

Have you ever fasted, TA?
-
Never heard that GH will do that for you.

false, once they get so big they can divide and make 2 cells. the number can only go up. of course they can shrink, but the number does not stay the same.

It's called neurogenesis and it is very old news and it is what I got my Ph.D. in.

Do you want a cookie?! Everyone on GB has a Ph.D, so next time restrain yourself from shoving your life story down our throats.

No. I'll do what I want.

this thread is brotastic

No. I'll do what I want.
But is what you 'want' reducible to neurochemical interactions or is will genuinely free? Also, do you believe consciousness is qualitatively distinct from the simple sum of our mental parts?
Serious Qs. Talk to me, Johnny!

fat cells are like balloons, the have an amazing capacity for expanding and contracting. Skin not so much

i would imagine he must have been close to that. would have been the type of guy you look at and instantly think "what a fatty".... skin doesnt look like that just from getting a bit chubby
