He is a physical therapist and also a Mass. State police officer.

look how his lower back is curled up at the bottom, when he pushes up from that position it places the back in its weakest possible position.

As for that leg exercize pic, I think it would be fine provided not too much weight is used. With a warm-up and gradual incease in weight I think it would be a great exercize. That particular pic does look rather gay though :) I can only imagine what the photoshoppers will do with it....
