Recently dieting, and I've noticed I'm losing weight but not as much body fat as usual. I think the issue might be my over consumption of equal. Have any of you noticed this during contest dieting?

There is evidence to suggest that the artifical sweeteners commonly found in diet drinks can cause an insulin reaction in the body.
It's a simple reaction to the sweetness, not carbs-- as there are no carbs in diet drinks. The body simply associates the taste of sweetness with the presence of carbs and assumes that carbs are present, increasing insulin levels in response.
I don't have the empirical data. I can't stand soda whether it be diet or sugary.
Drink water or unsweetened tea, coffee.
Aspartame "side effects" studies show all kinds of scary effects. I have read enough of these studies that lead me to believe there must be some concrete evidence that this substance truly is not good for you. Quite a few links available through the Google meister...

Thanks for the replies, anyone heard of aspartame causing additional body fat to be stored in the abdominal area due to it being toxic? I read somewhere that it prevents fat loss, but most of these articles don't have any studies backing them up....
Personally I have noticed that I can't get below a certain weight, and have lowered cals but kept aspartame level the same like 30 packets a-day...(thats a lot i know...) So I guess just gonna experiment and remove all aspartame for a few weeks.
Anyone else have personal experience to put in the table?
