You may well have missed this upon initial viewing, I know I did, but after reading Gross' PBP, went back and had a look. And right he was really:
12:18 a.m.: The champion enters the cage after a coat of Vaseline is slathered on his face. I'm sorry to say this, but it was pretty obvious that Silva took his hands, wiped down his face and rubbed his chest and arms. Something to remember if Silva easily, and repeatedly, slips out of Leites' grasp.
Now if I'm honest, I hardly doubt SIlva was doing it to gain an upperhand on Leites, but it's disappointing nonetheless

vaseline shows its ugly face once again in the octagon :(, the athletic commision will be coming in between rds pretty soon with some kind of detector that can tell if a fighters skin is illegally greased with a lubricant of some kind,lol. im jokin about now but who the hell knows whats gonna have to be done if this is really happening.
i remember rolling with a guy years back who used to put some kind of skin lotion on himself before he came to class, it was almost impossible to hold his limbs man. combine that lotion with the guys sweat and you can forget getting a submission unless your a very good bjj guy, which i was not, maybe that was the problem,lol.

Exactly my point, GSP vaseline didn't change shit because it was rubbed off between rounds 1 and 2 by a NSAC representative, either way as the fights go into longer rounds , the fighters sweat profusely and basically have the same effect as rubbing vaseline would, Joe Rogan mentions this all the time when there's two jits guys going at it past round 2 or 3
