Title: Silva v GSP
Post by: coltrane on April 23, 2009, 07:32:31 AM
so at a weight of 185, who wins this one?

I think GSP is in his prime right now.. but that being said, Silva is a good 4 inches taller, making his clinch just that much more difficult to deal with..

Thoughts?   Looks like this fight will be inevitable if GSP beats Alves.

Honestly?  I think GSP can beat him.  If the fight happens, I would put money on GSP.  I also think it would be an AWESOME fight.  I'd love to see it.  Two of the best in the world.  Way bigger than GSP vs. Blow Job Penn.  That was a joke from the start.

I'd go with Silva only because of the size advantage

I would go with GSp.  For one reason, he is smart yet aggressive.  I  think he'll bring the fight and silva hasn't really had that in a while.  GSP is good at both stand up and on the ground.  I also think that GSP has more hunger.

I think Spider is to much for GSP. he is to big and his striking I think is above GSP's. Plus Gsp would be giving up a lot of reach I believe and a lot of size.... No good for GSP!

whatever the fight Silva needs to bring some type of excitement.  There were some funny moments in his last fight, but his lst 2 fights or so have been snooze fests. It would be awesome if GSP would win though.  It would be a balls the wall kind of fight.

If GSP gets past Alves, they have to put this fight together.  I'd put my money on GSP with a 2nd round G&P stoppage....

Oh?  How so?   Dana's even implied that if he gets passed Alves this is gonna happen... and so has GSP.

Not dumb.

GSP has implied that if "GSP fights, GSP will win?" No way!  ::)

I wasn't commenting on the creation of the fight, but rather your prediction of the outcome. Flat out dumb.

Anderson was mounted by a dehydrated & weakened Lutter. I don't think he'll be able to stop GSP's take down.   Unlike Lutter, GSP would be able to finish.

I honestly cant call this one. For the first time in a while Anderson will actually have to fight a game opponent as talented as he is that wont back down. All I know is that I'd order the fight-- And I dont think I'd ever order another Anderson fight unless it was against GSP or a top 205 contender like Rashad or Rampage- someone of that ilk.

lmao im no anderson fan but that lutter pic shows perfect control, he is relaxed, passing the left and blocking perfectly at the bicep with the right. text book ground and pound defense.

gsp...just because i want to :D

the guy that's gonna beat Silva is the guy who can avoid that muy thai clinch and that's dangerous from the out side (leg kicks) and that's GSP....

factor in GSP's superior wrestling and upper body strength and the chances of beating Silva is pretty damned good...

still not sure who I'd pick if it happens though...

that has the potential to be one of the best fights in ufc history but how many times have weve seen 2 great guys fight and it turns out to be dissapointing? lately it seems like the fights that suppose to be good fights turn out great and the fights that suppose to be great fights turn out good at best

We have yet to see a fighter move up a weight class while having the belt from the lighter class, only to fight and win the belt in heavier class, therefore holding the belt in two UFC weight classes. Until that has been done, I have to put my money on AA, as he would be fighting at his natural fight weight. It would likely be by a brutal TKO.

actually they are talking about fighting at a catch weight.

I dont think the weight makes a difference at all.- This isn't BJ Penn fighting 20 pounds heavier. GSP is a natural 175 and Silva came into his last fight at 182. GSP can easily come in at 180 pounds. I dont even think Silva will even show up at 185 to fight GSP, but assuming he does, 5 pounds isn't going to mean jack shit.

I agree totally...I hope this fight is made very soon assuming he beats Alves.but...the longer it takes to make this fight happen the advantage goes to GSP...GSP is getting better and better.Silva will be 35 so he's just getting old.

Actually, if they fight at 185, that's GSPs natural walking around weight.  Anderson would be cutting to that, which means the day of the fight, he would really be around 200.  Regardless of wether it's a catch weight or not, Anderson will have 15 or so pounds over GSP.

I'll still be rooting for GSP though!
