I just did my first stint of tabata and i can barely breath. My lungs are on fire, i keep coughing, and i won't stop sweating even after a cold shower. BTW i only got through 6 rounds.

Are you saying you took up stripping like Johnny?
Throw in some slow songs so you don't get too tired.

You get 10 seconds of slow songs for every 20 seconds of hell ;D

told ya
I guarantee 99.9% of getbiggers will not be able to get through the full 8 rounds
If you are thinking about trying tabata, and you are not in "okay" shape already or have a family history of heart condition
don't do it!
it will seriously kill you, this = not a joke

am i the only person that doesnt understand?

I didn't buy it at all. I thought it would be an easy quick workout. And this is coming from a man who was the most improved runner junior year on my high school cross country team :P

Sorry i am talking about the tabata running intervals where you all out sprint for 20 seconds then rest for 10 seconds then sprint etc. for 8 rounds.

I am telling you it's hard as hell and i used to be a sprinter
i tried it 2 times, then found out there is no reason to do any cardio
that's great because I hate cardio of any kind 8)

given that that is the result THEN you should DEFINITLY (sp) be able to get results (given your diet is good as well)
what i suggest is to start off at 4 rounds and add a round every week or two till you hit the full 8
kinda like this
week 1 - 4 rounds
week2- 4-5 rounds
week3 - 5 rounds
week4 - 5-6 rounds
week5 - 6 rounds
week6 - 6-7 rounds
week 7 - 7 rounds
week 8 - 7- 8 rounds ("full tabata")
week 9 onward- full tabata

How many times a week do you recommend?

How many times a week do you recommend?
i see no problem with three times a week
btw, you will get ripped EVEN on those weeks you do like 4 rounds (as i illustratated in my previous post)
remember, it is all about RELATIVE high intensity meaning you have to go AS HARD AS YOU CAN

I never know when to quit so i'll probably stick at 6 and work my way up from there. Also can you feel the vibration from the gym boss because i really can't so i have to have my music on pretty low.

simply answered- i don't listen to music when i do tabata's so i wouldn't know
you could also hold the gymboss in your hand, clench it in your fist and feel the vibration

It sounds great, only 8 minutes of cardio. I hate the low intensity cardio that takes forever to complete :-\

I've been doing something similar (although slightly easier!) and I've really enjoyed it. I just sprint 50 yards, then walk back to the start and go again. I started with 10 sprints, working up to 18 at the moment.

fasted is better than doing it with protein shake, because you could throw up the protein shake after or during :-X
but I suggest doing it with some carbs in your system, Gene. :)
