Republicans, Conservatives, and for the most part - Religious people, are slowing down the societal evolution and advancement of America. The inhibition of stem cell research and techniques alone is an outrage to anyone who has a fucking clue. The common denominator in Republicans I encounter is dogmatic thinking instilled at a young age (i.e. brain washing), generally lower IQ, and strong blind faith in the Christian religion. Thankfully, the Republican part is dying and I feel that religion is slowly losing its stranglehold on this great nation. Make no mistake, it is a battle for minds. And it is time for the people with higher understanding to stop being afraid to speak up for their beliefs. It is time to stop letting the ignorant masses stifle advancement.
It's time to stop letting "mythology" influence government regulation and policy. It's time to Move On...

Without evolution there is no biology.
Without biology there is no medicine.
The next time he gets sick, tell him to pray his illness away. ::)

I have to say - he probably does believe in evolution. He's just playing politics not to alienate his base. Either way it's a sad state of affairs.

Your statement is as stupid as it is laughable. First, stem cell research isn't being inhibited. That is but a silly soundbite about the one form of stem cell research that has generated all of the controversy: embryonic stem cell research. Of course that just so happens to be the one form of stem cell research that has cure ABSOLUTELY NO DISEASES, whatsoever.
That's why supporters have to beg Obama to fund it. The biotech companies won't do it, because they'll lose money BIG TIME, if they do.
At last count, adult stem cell research has cured or treated over 70 diseases. And, more breakthroughs are showing that destroying embryos to get certain types of cells are UNNECESSARY.
As for the advancement of society in America, apparently you forgot that the champion of the civil rights movement was a BLACK MINISTER, and the movement had its genesis in BLACK CHRISTIAN CHURCHES. Not to mention the scores of humanitarian programs we have are religious-based.
The United Way (ever hear of that?)......it started with a handful of church leaders.
Then, there's that group called the Salvation Army.
And, that's just a sample.

That's utterly ridiculous. Belief in evolution has absolutely nothing to do with medicine. Or did you forget that people like Louis Pasteur developed vaccines that cured deadly diseases? This would be the same guy that destroyed the once-widely held tenet of evolution, known as spontaneous generation.
Pasteur did such a great job of that, to the point where evolutionist George Wald claimed that the only reason he (and other scientists) still held to spontaneous generation was because, without it, they'd have to admit to supernatural Creation as the start of life, which didn't fit their philosophical desires.
Next time, you drink a milk-based protein shake or have some chicken, thank that "ignorant" guy who believed in Creation. And make sure your milk is "Pasteruized".

Adonis, I'm usually with you on most things, but I wouldn't hang Pence here. I thought as Matthews did, that he was more honest than most. To say he believes God created things, but was unsure on whether God used evolution to do it I thought was fair. And I do think he was trying not to alienate the religious right, but I still give him some grace there as Matthews did.
I think SCIENCE is supposed to explain mostly how things work to a point, but in terms of initial cause, both evolutionist and creationists are making conclusions based on the scientific evidence. Both make leaps based on the evidence presented, but there's no denying it if there is conclusive evidence that humans and apes evolved from a common ancestor, if such evidence exists.
