IMO this is one of the best bodybuilding physiques of all time. Sure, it may not impress the Ruhl/Batista size freaks, but Paris's physique was what bodybuilding should be all about - it is perfection!
With today's IFBB "standards", would this physique make it to the pro ranks? Would he place in any IFBB show?
-
Given his penchant for Fagitry probably well.
-
Oh come on ::) No matter his sexual orientation, Paris was intelligent, articulate, and a good spokesperson for bodybuilding. His approach to bodybduilding was very respectable - Beyond Built and Flawless provide incredibly informative reading - and his physique was ideal.
-
He represents what the ideal physique should be in my mind.
Freaks have their place but this is how it should be done imo.

I agree. Paris has the ideal physique that I strive for. Closest to perfection I have seen.

Interesting how you pick up on the fact he is gay irrespective of all the other things you could have mentioned.

Where would these 2 former Mr Olympias place in a pro show?
Would they place in a NPC line-up?

Perfection.

Those are some great pics of Bob Paris. That is unquestionably the ideal male physique. I think a physique like that would appeal much more to the mainstream than the bloated-face-synthol-in shape-for-one-day-thick-skin physiques we now see.
I think Frank Zane's physique is much more pleasing than any of the current 202lb competitors. Sure, he may look relatively thin compared to someone much shorter than him and 15lbs heavier, but his physique looks much better.
Here are some more great pics of Bob Paris...

great build no question about it,most would kill for it.look at it as a bigger haidar version and hadair places top 10 in smaller shows so maybe top 10 ,top 5 no.

If Paris was competing in the current era, he would have been more up to date being in size and strength.
It is a shame that he now doesn't even communicate with the bodybuilding industry anymore but honestly I can't blame him. Its plagued with a lot of negativity

No one touches Zane.
Not yesterday
Not today.
That is all.

No gut, his calves aren't tiny, he's in proportion and no gyno. Last place.
BTW, is there anyone here who wouldn't want to look like this? And remember he was over 6 ft tall.

To me this is what a Mr. Olympia should represent - a physique that is well-balanced, well-presented, statuesque, and seemingly healthy. I realize that many of Paris's qualities, e.g. structure, shape, symmetry are genetic, however, this type of physique is much more inspirational and motivational to me than someone who is 45lbs overweight 90% of the year sporting a 40 inch waist and a gut.

I would actually like to hear GH15's opinions on Paris.

Zane was the new Reeves. Fantastic flow and proportions with amazing conditioning.
Paris was the new Zane, absolute bbing perfection, but bigger too.
I always thought of Benfatto as the successor to carry the torch, really great physique, anyone would want to emulate.
For a while it looked like Milos was the new era's Zane...

That is a good point. How tall was Zane? One of the qualities of Paris was his height. For instance, Labrada had many of the same qualities, however, his height put him at a disadvantage. I guess my point is that Benfatto definitely had a great physique, but wasn't he ultra short like Labrada? I totally agree that pre-synthol Milos's physique carried the "statuesque" torch. Of the current competitors, who carries said torch? Sadly I can't think of anyone :(

lol.
you kidding?
zane wouldn't place top 10 at the Nationals.
-
i was at the 1978 mr eastern america contest won by robert reis. zane was a quest poser, top 10 of that show blew zane away size wise and condition and frank was the reigning mr o.

While Reis may have outmassed, and had full development of bodyparts, as well as conditioning, one factor Zane had, that he lacked, was a superior frame and shape.
-
true but on that day he looked smooth and small.

I'm sure he did look smooth because he wasn't competing on that day. Even Dexter, Jay, or any other pro lack the conditioning of the competitors at the amateur shows at which they guest pose (assuming it's a good show). The difference is that in Zane's era pros didn't get 40lbs overweight and look fat in the offseason, so it is not a surprise that Zane didn't look as big the comptetitors at that show.

Guest posing con dition vs contest condition
I saw Reis also compete
was mediocre...not good enough to go pro
so
cannot really compare to Zane

good post
zane was 5'9" when he competed
I trained with him a few years ago...he is obviously older...and somewhat shorter

Bob is what bodybuilding should be all about! If he were to compete this day I have no doubt he would do extremely well. He's got $ written all over him. No gut- great color and skin- great symmetry- enough size (225-235) and he's articulate.

I read in a Weider magazine that Bob would deadlift 585 for reps even during his contest diet. If this is the case, he was definitely pretty strong.

Troy Alves.

???
Tell me how much shorter. I am Zane's competitive height and don't want to get any shorter. He will be 67 this year and I find it nothing short of TERRIFYING to learn that he has lost height with age.

Zane beat the living hell outta those side delts to create the illusion of width. His side caps are still the envy of bodybuilders. He says he can barely move his delts because of all the overuse and excess.
He felt that the appearance of the side delts was one of the most important aspects of a complete physique. If he had it to do all over again, he would have used less weight, more pump, and taken more rest.
