I am training more for strenght for a while so I stay between 3-6 reps most of the time
as front squats are my favorite quads exercise I try to gain strenght on it but my problem is that I can't go any heavier than 3 plates and a half or I almost lose conscience because I can't breath.
do you have any techniques to hold the bar where I could breath a little easier ?
before I hold the bar like I was doing a clean and jerk but my wrist are not flexible enough anymore so now I just but my forarm like a cross, (my right hand on my left shoulder, left hand on my right shoulder)
I don't know if you see what I mean

Use wrist straps and encircle them around the bar....hold onto the ends of the straps.....just balance the weight on your front delts

stick to holding the bar in a clean & jerk position, you will gain wrist and shoulder flexibility in time, i choke too when i am close to maxing out. how many sets/reps do you do? i do not think front squats are made for high reps, i usually do 4x2 or 4x3.

I do them on the smith machine, albeit after normal squats and hack squats

I don't really count the sets !
I train quads 2 times a week so on my front squat days I start with 1 plate on each side and I slowly go up until I go to my heaviest weight.
it depends on how I feel each time, if I feel strong I will even do 1 rep shots.
I love doing regular squats also but I think they don't do shit for my quads so I haven't done them in a while

feeling dizzy and being close to passing out means you are truly maxing out so i do not see a problem there ;D

well that's what pisses me off, cause I feel I could press more because even my 1 rep max gets up pretty easily !
but as soon as I unrack it my face gets all red and I get dizzy

Have you tried not to hold the bar at all. Needs a lil practice and takes getting used to in the beginning, but I do em all the time like that nowadays. I can also focus much better on the legs this way, can't imagine doing them any different anymore.

Set the bar real low
Limbo under it and let the barbell rest directly on your Windpipe
Kinda like this

I dont understand how you put it on your front delts. hurts like hell for me..
-
fuck front squats, do 10 sets of normal squats for quads like me and you done.

Then you don't place the bar right. I don't feel anything on the front squats. ???
