I wonder sometimes, why anyone taking a photo would let pix like that run when it is so easy to retouch and otherwise reduce the color saturation in photos.

That first photo is from the '94 Olympia evening show. Dorian's color was splotchy and running during the prejudging, so some genius decided to apply pro-tan (or something similar) for his finals individual posing routine. The result is what you see above. Someone must have informed him of it looking bad, as when he came back out for the awards and top 6 posedown, it had been removed along with most of his original color.
