Title: How does a GREAT bodybuilder deal with...?
Post by: io856 on May 25, 2009, 06:08:30 AM
...being one of the best in the bodybuilding world yet:

in other words excelling in something yet in day to day life not experiencing intense respect that they may deserve and even a failure in some areas of life...

That is a rare phenomena and a compelling one to explore imo...

You have to love what you do.
I never made a dime from bodybuilding, but I am very succesful. My wife doesnt train.Everyday someone makes a steroid comment, and I thank them for it.
I say thank you for the compliement.I must look pretty goood if you think im on steroids. They only say this comment because there gf or wife is caught checking me out, so they have to say this to feel better about themselves.
Plus clothes are an issue.I tried to by some Affliction t-shirts last week, the only ones that fior me were XXL, and all the cool shirts were large or mediums.
They only had 2 XXL, and only one was half way decent the other one sucked.
Plus if you find a shirt you like chances are they dont have your size.
I rarely find a button up collared shirt that fits me.
To make matters worse, they are make more and more pants straight leg, which are narrow. So if you train legs, its hard to find pants to fit unless you want to look like John Travolata from Saturday Night Fever.Even pants with a 40" waiste didnt fit around my legs, and my waiste is a 34".Plus you always get some jack off who wants to test you on the road, or in a store, but when they find out that messing with you can lead to severe bodily harm. They change there tune.
The bottom line is if you have a nice physique people are always going to be jelious of you.I have a saying, if people are better then you, they dont like you, if your better then them, they hate you.The best thing you can do is build your  body for you, and only you.Fuck everyone else.If you work out to please other people you will never be happy. Its like some people buy a car to impress people they dont even like.
There is no money in bodybuilding, but having a nice physique, and building it  for your self and evolving as a person is priceless.

Wearing an Affliction t-shirt justifies cosmetic muscles.

How to deal with it? Like all other bodybuilders:

Put on your skimpiest, tiniest, sheerest, pinkest, tightest, sparkliest thong

Rub some oil and mud on yourself

Run out on the stage of some local middle school prancing about, shaking your money-maker, and miming the words to some lame song.

That's how  :P

Epic "bullet format", but without the "bullet" (*)...I got a headache reading that...

say, NY...if you're the person i think you are, you are one of the few people who could honestly back up a such a post ("can't get clothes to fit", "never ending steroid comments",  etc. etc.).  can you post a pic and prove it please

You're a little off in your assessments...one of the best in the BB world is just about the complete opposite of what you listed, other than "frowned upon by some"....which is out of our hands anyway

I think many guys Do respect huge bodybuilders and some women as well.  Some women will see it as a sign of insecurity but if the guy has a good personality then it won't hurt him.  The guys get threatened by their presence.

Yes, and this was witnessed by all the comments made on Jay when he was on TMZ. Just one pic of the guy and about 100 comments are made, most of them negative. Yet from what i have heard, Jay is actually a pretty nice guy. People are way too hard on bb'ers.

The issue is Bodybuilding is not mainstream society. It's a brutal activity that most dont understand and consider a cult activity. What sucks is the guys put so much into it and feel the need to be rewarded but only can get rewarded within the group of peers. It will never be mainstream. :)

competing with guys on stuff guys care about to win women....

ol..

you forget that your competing in something that guys care about, not something women care about

compete with other dudes for things that will make women think your the better man, not something that will make other guys think your the better man.

for example, guys will argue about things that women dont givea fuck about, the guys arguing it hard because they dont want to los an argument in front of the girls... but they forget... the girls dont give a fuck about who is better at football or beerpong or driving or snowboarding or whatever the fuck....   its pointless..  arguing and competing make people look insecure whether they win or lose..

No I am not talking about Jay and the top 10 Olympians I consider many more bodybuilders as "great"...

I don't think you understood what my true intention of this thread was...

Basically most people in the elite (or close to) of any given field receive a high amount of respect and adolation...

you mean like George W Bush is given respect and adolation?  Mike Tyson is given respect and adolation?  The list can go on and on, Saddam Hussein was he given respect and adolation, all people at the top of their fields and not given what you just mentioned.

when you feel like you are not respected or shown thanks for what you have accomplished you just turn to the needle and inject an extra cc's of your choice test.  Or you pop a pill to calm you down and lay down, not in the sense of they are shooting up cocaine and smoking majiuana.

I don't think this applies to the "great" bodybuilders. The top of the top make a great living and have pretty good lives when compared to the average 8-5ers that have to punch a clock. It's the one's who never quite make it and can't make a decent living off the sport.
