The way chuck used to fight (more in his prime) was a basic counterpuncher. Had tons of success with it.
I see Machida as reminiscent of this... is the key to beating Machida the same as it is for Liddell?
-
They are both counter punchers, but that is where the similarities end. Chuck used his wrestling base to stay on his feet and used his strong chin to walk though punches and land his overhand right. Now that he lost his chin and reflexes, he is easier to beat.
Machida, effectively uses his footwork to avoid getting hit, put in the clinch or taken down and impeccable timing to land solid strikes with fists, feet and knees. His chin has not yet been tested.

haha machida like liddell hilarous.
-
Machida is unlike any other fighter. Liddell is not even close to his style.
Machida not only has the best record, he has never lost a round in the UFC as well as getting hit on average of once every 2.5 rounds :o
Incredible elusiveness!

Like Liddell of old in that they are both counterstrikers.

He has never lost a round in his whole MMA career. That is what is crazy since he started fighting he has won every fight, but more importantly every round! INSANE!

machida has his black belt in jits....
he's a lot more accurate with his hands than chuck ever was...
chuck never could go to the head with leg kicks the way Lyota can...
Lyota's chin is suppose to be rock solid...
not sure that comparing the two is all that good of an idea

He did take a solid punch to the face from BJ Penn and shook it off. So you may be right...

I LOVED how BJ said after Lyoto's fight "He didn"t do that shit to me" -classic BJ

it's a good thing for the 205 division for a guy like Machida to have emerged.....
it's good for a division to have one guy sitting at the top while the rest of the 205ers have to beat each other just to earn the right to get their ass beat by the top dog...
no more of this musical chairs with the title....

The only similarity is coutner punching. Chuck is better at TD defense, although Lyoto is better at TDs. (Ask Cain Velasquez and the guys at AKA). Lyoto is much more accurate, moves his head better, and is a much better kicker. Lyoto will not stand in the pocket and trade, he cuts all type of angles and has much better footwork than Chuck. Chuck has better one punch KO power, though.
