Title: Body88 = Pats
Post by: Doug_Steele on May 26, 2009, 10:37:24 AM
QB Tom Brady did not take part in New England's first three days of voluntary OTAs at Gillette Stadium, a three-day passing camp that focused on rookies, first-year Patriots newcomers and other young players rehabbing from injuries. Working his way back to full health from a severe knee injury that cost him all but a quarter of action last fall, the former NFL MVP is expected to be on the field for the Patriots second series of OTA sessions May 26-29 at Gillette Stadium.

"I'm feeling great and just excited to be out there on the field, training with my teammates," Brady told Patriots.com. "It's always fun being back in this competitive environment and working with these guys to try to make 2009 our best season. It's been fun to be back. I think everyone is excited to get back on the field and see what we're capable of."

What are your thoughts about Tom and do the Pats have a Capable backup if Tom gets Hurt again?

I think that Brady is going to be fine and that some of the hype about his injury was created by the Patriots to drive up Cassel's value.  Even Brady at 85% of what he was in 2007 is better than anyone not named Payton Manning.  50 td's to 4 int's is insane and thats what he can do at his best.  Brady has never been mobile, thats not what makes him great, it's his smarts, his arm and his awareness to pressure.  He knows just when to step up or when to shuffle to the side to avoid the rush.  I think that he feels like he has something to prove and he will have a big year.

Kevin O'connel is Brady's backup.  He's just like Cassel but a better athlete.  Belichick took him in the third round, which is the highest that they have taken a QB since they have been here.  I've seen him play and he looks just like Cassel.

He threw more than 4 Int's in 2007. Think it was around 8 or 9. Still an incredible year for sure.

I hope to see Brady back in top form. A serious injury can hurt your confidence, though. I'm sure his O-line will be extra motivated to keep defenses from touching him.

Sorry, it was 50/8.  Incredable is an understatement considering he plays outdoors in the northeast and it was his first year with Moss and Welker.  Brady will be fine, he's been through it all.  Confidence is something Brady has a lot off.  I hope to see him back in top form and I think he will be.  I think the pats hyped his injury big time.

I think he'll throw around 40 td's and 10 - 15 int's next year.

I think this offense can be better than 07, if thats possible. Galloway is a great additon as a third reciever and the 2 tight ends they got are beasts. Taylor gives them another option out of the backfield with Maroney who seems very motivated and Faulk who always produces.

Not so sure about Galloway being that much of an addition. He'll be 38 years old this season. He really began to show his age last season with the Bucs. Still a great pro who works very hard to stay on the field despite his advanced age.

This is a tough one for me as i saw him play at O$U and down here in Tampa but he is still a great player and will be a valuable commodity to Tom Brady. Tom wants to play another "Ten" years but who knows if his body will be able to stand ten more years. PATS have at least two more rings coming to them while Brady is QB.

As far as ability on the field, he's no longer great. As far as his professionalism and they way he prepares himself physically, he's terrific. It will be interesting to see how much he has left in the tank.

I think it was a good addition. He's a number three wr.  Brady has taken guys with less talent that Galloway and made them fit the system.  Look at Caldwell and Gaffney.  I also think this year O will be better than the 2007 version. Well, if injuries don't take their toll.

Brady

Moss, Welker, Galloway, Tate

Watson, Baker, Thomas, Hochstein (jumbo package TE/FB/blocker)

Maroney, Morris, Taylor, Faulk, BJGE

Thats a very good starting lineup no matter the combination - imo.

he's a #3 receiver with the PATRIOTS. His entire career he's been a #1. Now he's going to play in the slot? or is he just going to back up Welker and Moss? Galloway is not a slot receiver and never has been. He's always been a vertical stop and go receiver.I honestly don't think he'll be much of a factor for the Pats this year. I know Belichik loves veteran players but Galloway didn't attract much interest from other teams when he became a feee agent. He's pretty long in the tooth.

Just my opinion.

Yes, he's replacing Gaffney.  I guess you could say he's a #2, but he's not.  Welker is the #2.  The "slot" is a hybrid position with the pats, because they often supplement their running game with short passing plays to welker while Moss draws double teams.  They've started to use him outside the slot, also. I know he didn't attract much interest, but neither did Welker or Randy Moss.  People called Moss old an washed up, now he's the best in the game according to all the pundits.

I guess we'll just have to see what happens.

Explain?  They have pretty much rebuilt the whole defense (which was a top ten d in the NFL last year).  They could use another lb, but they are pretty damn young all over the place now.  They will be getting back players they lost last year to injury.  Tank Williams, A.D Thomas and Shawn Crable to name a few.

Why do you say that? Because they lost their defensive coordinator and Bart Scott to the Jets?

The Ravens defense will be fine. Keep an eye out for Tavares Gooden. He replaces Scott as the inside backer next to Ray Lewis. That kid has all the tools, wait and see. I would have loved to have kept Jim Leonard but Dawan Landry will be a force at SS this season. He has a lot to prove this year. The Ravens D-line is going to be sick this year. Stop gap NT Kelly Gregg is back and healthy, Trevor Pryce and Suggs are back at the DE(even though Suggs is a hybrid player who plays with his hand down as a DE or lines up standing as a LB). Haloti Ngata is an absolute animal and will be an all-pro this year.

The Ravens will be a force for years to come. Even the most die-hard Steeler fans acknowledge this.

I agree, they lost some important players who were responsible for the Ravens playoff success last season. But the Ravens have outstanding scouting and a great eye for young talented players who can fit their defensive scheme and philosophy.

You'll see what I mean when next season unfolds.

what? Those teams you listed have pretty stellar records over the last 5 years. Reason being is because they had stable leadership for years from within in, belichek,labeau,dungy.... The ravens have been anything but consistent during that time. Now, with a 2nd year head coach and a brand new d-coordinator, dont think the ravens will just "plug and play".

Those teams have cores of players and a drafting philosophy that allows them to contend year after year with a salary cap and with free agency.  The teams I just mentioned are the best drafting teams in the NFL.  They lose players, replace players and plug in players.  I can give you a million examples of this with the pats alone.  Obviously the stable leadership, the drafting of that leadership and the understanding of who they can plug in where makes them successful.  Rex Ryan drafted a ton of awesome players while he was with the ravens.

The ravens have consistently produced and drafted awesome football players since 2001.  I know their record is not "steller" but I'm talking about the ability to draft players and they have a laundry list of great ones.  of course they had some poor choices a long the way (Boller), but as a fan I admire their ability to spot defensive talent.  Since 01 they've gone 54-42 and won a single superbowl.

of course the Titans, the Pats, the Colts and the Steelers have won more, but from a drafting standpoint all the teams listed have done pretty damn good.

The Patriots hosted LB Paris Lenon for a free agent visit last week.
New England is on the lookout for inside linebackers after rookie Tyrone McKenzie's ACL tear. Lenon, 31, started in the middle for Detroit last year.

He'd be a solid fit their.  Doesn't have to do a lot and could just be a sub there behind Mayo and Bruschi.

He's going to play in a limited role.  It takes some time to learn Belichick's scheme.  The pats are bringing in a lot of guys so they have a better chance of nabbing a solid player or two via f.a.  Many of these guys won't make the team.  Also, keep in mind no one knew who the hell Vrabel was when he came over from Pitt.
