David Haye pulls out of world heavyweight title fight with Wladimir Klitschko
David Haye has pulled out of his world heavyweight challenge against Wladimir Klitschko, only 10 days before the three-belt title bout and with 60,000 tickets sold for the fight at the home of Schalke 04 FC in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

The dramatic news, which came this afternoon, hit home to the champion. Klitschko looked immediately drawn and depressed when the announcement was made by his manager Bernd Bonte in the middle of a news conference with the British media here at his training camp in the foothills of the Austrian Alps.

"We have just received an e-mail from Adam Booth, Haye's trainer, that he is injured and cannot fight on June 20," said Bonte.

Klitschko, the WBO, IBF and IBO champion, insisted that he still wishes to fight on June 20, and it appears that a fight with the WBA champion Nikolai Valuev may be possible. Bonte would not confirm that such a move might be made.

Klitschko said he did not disbelieve the news: "I would not dish the dirt on David Haye. The dogs are still barking, but the camel train moves on."

Sean O'Hara, head of boxing at Setanta who were due to broadcast the contest, said: "I have spoken to Adam Booth and they have taken medical opinions on David Haye's injury and found that he could not train.

"The injury will be independently verified but we have been told that Haye was unable to train properly for this fight."

Haye is lucky the fight is cancelled because Klitschko would have given him a serious beating. Haye's a limey English bitch with a big mouth.

The Heavyweight division sucks but at least Wladimir is trying to unify the heavyweight titles.

7 foot Nicolai Valuev as a replacement in place of Haye?? Not as interesting of a match as with Haye but I would tune in for this one.....

One possibility the Klitschko camp may explore is a match against fellow titleholder Nikolai Valuev, whose defense against Ruslan Chagaev scheduled for last Saturday in Finland was called off the night before because Chagaev tested positive for hepatitis B before the fight.

"He had a fight canceled and he had trained for it. The same thing with Wladimir," Finkel said. "Our first thing is to see when [the Haye fight] can be rescheduled, but we will look at Valuev and all other options.

Valuev fucking sucks, bro. The only appeal for a fight w/ Wlad is that he's a abnormally big, goofy-looking dude with zero KO power. Pathetic. The boxing commission shouldn't even schedule that fight. I'll rather wait for Wlad/Haye to be rescheduled.

I didn't say that it would be an ideal fight by any stretch of the imagination....it's just the only one that would make remote sense on such short notice (10 days).....Valuev's fight got cancelled just last week so you would assume he would be in some kind of fight ready shape. And sadly as bad as he sucks you could make a half assed argument that he is still a top 15 heavyweight.

The only replacement fight I would really want to see would be if Eddie Chambers could step in but the notice is SO short.

If Wlad and Haye can make the match happen within the next couple months, I would take that over either of the above options.

Wlad has some serious skills, too bad the HW doesnt have any one to rival him.

UPDATE

Associated Press

LONDON -- David Haye hopes his world heavyweight title fight against Wladimir Klitschko can be rescheduled for July.

The British fighter pulled out of the scheduled June 20 bout against the IBF and WBO champion on Wednesday after injuring his back in training.

The fight was scheduled to take place before a sellout crowd of more than 60,000 at Schalke's soccer stadium in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

Haye's manager, Adam Booth, said Thursday the boxer was returning to Britain for treatment and hoped a new fight date would be arranged.

"It looks like there will be only a three-week delay from the original fight date, which hopefully means that Wladimir will only postpone the fight, rather than cancel it," Booth said in statement.

Haye is 22-1 and has recently moved up from cruiserweight. Klitschko, considered the best of the heavyweights, is 52-3.

"I'm sorry to disappoint all my fans across the world and I hope that once I have had the sufficient treatment, I will be able to start training again and we can get the fight on as soon as possible," Haye said. "I know this is the fight the fans want and I will do everything to make sure it happens."

Klitschko's manager, Bernd Boente, said the fight could be moved to late July.

"Contractually, we have to first of all see how bad the injury is," he told Setanta Sports News. "If there is just a small postponement, maybe we could do the fight four weeks later. We have put a lot of training into the fight but we will have to see."

Klitschko voiced his frustration and suggested he could find a new opponent.

"I've been waiting for this David Haye fight for half a year," Klitschko said. "But now I have no David Haye on June 20th, so we'll keep the date and I wish a fast recovery to him."

Pac-man is just amazing. Who would have predicted 4 or 5 years ago that he would eventually be fighting a MUCH larger welterweight champ like Shane Mosley.

Actually bro, the more I am reading about this it seems like Pac is gunning towards the winner of the Marquez vs. Mayweather fight for an October date. He doesn't seem to want either Mosley or Cotto at this point.

I say Juan Manuel Marquez who is 35 years old will finally begin to show his age and Mayweather will take him out. Pacquiao vs. Mayweather would be a badass match assuming that Floyd looks at least 90% like the Mayweather of old.

Mayweather versus Pacman might set gate records. It all depends how Mayweather looks against Marquez. If Floyd dominates then his fight against Pacman will be one of the most anticipated matchups in years.

I agree that it could set gate records but more likely because Pac is the main attraction.

As much as Floyd likes to brag about being this "PPV cash cow" I would conclude that the reason his last two fights were so successful in buys was because he fought two guys with HUGE followings Oscar De La Hoya (who always does big numbers) and Ricky Hatton (sporting an undefeated record and his fans travel thousands of miles across the Atlantic just to see him)

Look at Floyds current fight with Juan Manuel Marquez, there are still PLENTY of seats available for that fight and Marquez is pretty much the biggest name in Mexican boxers right now(well besides Julio Ceaser Chavez Jr. who is pretty much an over hyped chump who is relying on his daddys name and will get his ass royally handed to him if he steps up to Shane Mosley).

Floyd has had two mega buy PPVs with Hatton and De la Hoya, a few paltry ones against the likes of Gatti, Judah and others and what shapes up to be a pretty average PPV next month.

I don't even know if I'm gonna buy THIS Mayweather vs. Marquez fight coming up between two hesitant counter-punchers....I probably will just catch the replay on HBO.
