Actually, Jrod is really pushing his sides in, if you see that his actual waist (his pelvic girdle) is wider than what he's pushing in while doing is lat pose.

Brain's waist in comparison is actually smaller, because of his flaring lats...he doesn't need to push his waist in. And if you were to see his when he was younger it was even smaller.
