Yes, I said 1.2 million, not the 600,000 reported: http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUSTRE5572M020090608
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Monday he expected to create or save 600,000 jobs over the next 100 days by expediting 10 major projects funded by a huge stimulus package that Congress passed in February.
Uh huh. This is what The White House says thus far:
The White House said the $787 billion Recovery and Reinvestment Act has helped save or create over 150,000 in the first 100 days since it was signed.
And what about the other 600,000? That was from Bush's "stimulus" package, remember?
http://uk.reuters.com/article/telecomm/idUKWAT00920220080331
"We know they're going to be helpful," Paulson said on CNN television. "These checks should be a big part of adding 500,000 to 600,000 additional jobs this year."
That was March 31st, 2008.
How'd it work out?

The stimulus plan is a joke.
And everyone on planet Earth should know that when politicians talk about "saving or creating" jobs, they are lying through their teeth.
Every economist knows it and every economist on his staff knows it too. "Saving jobs"? What the fuck does that mean and how do you quantify it or prove it? In the beginning of this whole Stimulus Plan it was going to "create" jobs and then that turned into "saving" jobs.
Lies, all of it. But idiots and retards eat it up.

Not so good. :-\

cue 240 to say that he has created jobs...
-
"President Obama pledged Monday to pump stimulus money into the economy over the next several months as part of a plan to create or save more than 600,000 jobs this summer, though the administration admits that at least 125,000 of those jobs are temporary. . . ."

The Government does not and has never created a job in the private sector. All the government can do is set favorable comditions for the private sector to create jobs. Now if you think taxing the hell out of those making over a whopping 250K a year is the way to do that I have some ocean front property in Indiana for sale.

Stay out of the private sector would be a good start.

There's a good point. however, wasn't lack of regulation the cause of companies eating each other up until they were 'too big to fail'?
Face it, there are people running firms who are smart enough to get rich screwing up things big time for everyone. The oil speculators who cause all this shit last year, for example. Without any regulation, 1% of the investors will sink the economy in about 5 minutes.

It is the govts job to protect its citizens. letting 1% of the people crush the economy for the other 99% isn't a good idea. yeah, it's their job to prevent that thru regulation.
And yes, if I criticize bush, I'll either admit I don't have a better idea, or I'll give my idea.

LOL well shit almighty i could use that horrible logic to justify anything...Obama isnt preventing anything, HE HIMSELF PROMISED JOBS has he delivered?
what would you have done with NK if you were bush?
-
what would you have done with NK if you were bush?
i wouldn't have paid them a million barrels of oil.
I would convince the UN they were a threat.
Then I'd park some UN men directly on the border with NK.
Then I'd do everything possible to let a 'Tonken' incident happen.
The UN would be sucked into a war in NK, which would end quickly when Russian/Chinese UN forces suddenly have to walk into war in NK. CHI/RUS would pressure kim jung il, and he'd cave. And if he didn't they would have no problem doing the dirty shit to get it done. And if that didn't work, you'd have french and arab and asian and other nations' soldiers fighting in NK - not just US soldiers.
So that's my solution. Get the world to line up against them, let a skirmish happen, then clean their clock. Do you like that idea, tony?

-
Yeah and he's still running...oh and he can use the hell out of a telepromter. Math/demographics/history/foreign relations/Gov agencies he's a bit lost on.

for you 240
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama assured the nation his recovery plan was on track Monday, scrambling to calm Americans unnerved by unemployment rates still persistently rising nearly four months after he signed the biggest economic stimulus in history.
Obama admitted his own dissatisfaction with the progress but said his administration would ramp up stimulus spending in the coming months. The White House acknowledged it has spent only $44 billion, or 5 percent, of the $787 billion stimulus, but that total has always been expected to rise sharply this summer.
"Now we're in a position to really accelerate," Obama said. ::)
He also repeated an earlier promise to create or save 600,000 jobs by the end of the summer.
Neither the acceleration nor the jobs goal are new. Both represent a White House repackaging of promises and projects to blunt criticism that the effects haven't been worth the historic price tag. And the job estimate is so murky, it can never be verified.
The economy has shed 1.6 million jobs since the stimulus measure was signed in February, far overshadowing White House announcements estimating the effort has saved 150,000 jobs. Public opinion of Obama's handling of the economy has declined along with the jobs data.
For the first time, the administration admitted the economic forecasts it used to sell the stimulus were overly optimistic.
"At the time, our forecast seemed reasonable," Vice President Joe Biden's top economic adviser, Jared Bernstein, said Monday, explaining that the White House underestimated the scope of the recession. "Now, looking back, it was clearly too optimistic."
By now, according to earlier White House economic models, the nation's unemployment rate should be on the decline. The forecasts used to drum up support for the plan projected today's unemployment would be about 8 percent. Instead, it sits at 9.4 percent, the highest in more than 25 years.
Some analysts believe the White House is still not being realistic, that Obama will be lucky if any real job creation from his recovery effort is seen by the end of the year, let alone the employment explosion he predicts.

Barry could bring peace and love to everybody..if the economy is like this in 2010....goodbye dems and then goodbye Barry....thats the game.

Actually the legislation was in place for 76 years and worked just fine, The Glass-Steagall Act of 1933. Then some dumbass's in the government got the idea that hey we don't need that anymore ( and just for clarification it was republicans that introduced the bill to repeal, and a democratic President that signed it)
