Title: Getbig contests?
Post by: Matt C on June 09, 2009, 05:53:03 PM
I find it pretty interesting to follow along Kevin's transformation.  I think we should have some more contests on getbig.  Maybe a transformation contest?  How about a deadlift contest with 315?

Discuss.

That is a very good lift for your bodyweight.

Did you use straps?

Yeah, i have the same problem. I have straps, but don't like them.

My gym has pretty old barbells, so they don't have much grip left. Some chalk would be good. I haven't tried it before.

It might not be role model behaviour, but it is what it is.  ;)

it would be an interesting twist of events to have the mr Getbig 4 be for the strongman.

Maybe get a universal object - something that cannot be faked - and compete for reps.

On Tuesday I did 295X18 plus two cheat reps for deadlift and my goal is to hit 315X20 in 12 weeks.  I think it is a realistic goal.

is it easier for you to deadlift with your shoes off??..

Matt...for the love of gawd! Why must you try to hurt yourself?

The last two reps were a struggle, but despite the form in all of my videos I can honestly state that I have not had any sort of weight lifting related injury whatsoever in eight years of training.  No soreness, no pain, nothing.  My joints and everything else feel great.  That is not to say that someone should replicate my form.  However, the first 18 reps were not too bad, but maybe I should have quit before doing the cheat reps since deadlift is not an exercise to do cheat reps on.

On Tuesday, I want to up both the weight and the reps [DC style] and try for 300X19 [with no cheat reps].

great job matt!!.. you will achieve your goal i am sure..

Yes, it makes the range of motion slightly shorter which makes it a little easier.

282 pounds, not 187. The conversion is 2.2 lb/kg

this is a typing mistake,.. i meant 287 pounds (130 Kg) not 187 pounds (84 kg).. 282 pounds = 128 kg not 130 kg..

thx for correcting me :)..

Looks like a good gym to train at. In the end, all you need are weights, barbells and a good work ethic.

totally agree with you, at advanced gyms you also find free weights and all but the atmosphere of hardcore gyms makes you even stronger :)..

when i cant go to the gym i train at home where i have only a chinup, a bench, a bar, a z bar, & dumbles and also some small tools like the twister bar and the stretcher and belive me i train as hard as when i am in the gym if not harder!!..

A contest like that is better suited to the teen section on BB.com.

A deadlift contest should never allow bouncing the weights off the floor IMO.

Strong lifts none the less.
