It's been 8 years since the death of Mike Mentzer and two days later, his brother, Ray. Even to this day no one seems to provoke such strong opinions. You either love him or hate him. Like his opinions, there doesn't seem to leave much room for gray areas. Nonetheless, no one can deny his impact and legacy in bodybuilding.

The Mentzer Brothers are still alive you idiots. It's a conspiracy.

Mentzer had a great physique, his training shots are some of the best gym photography ever.
But his training methods are adaptations/variations of Arthur Jones and Elington Darden's systems.
His philosophy was merely paraphrasing Ayn Raind.
Plus, he did intense low-volume training, not HIT.

Exactly, Figo. I've talked about it before at length - Mike never coined anything original. Arthur Jones was the true genius who developed HIT as a viable theory (which I think might have been the marketing angle he chose to spin to the public when it came to selling his machines). Mentzer simply rehashed a lot of that stuff and tried to pass it off as his own, while quoting Ayn Rand all over the place.
