Title: how is cancer donation money used?

Billions of dollars a year go into 'research'.  I'm sure some of it is good but I can't see how all that money being needed.

Is there an excess of money going to research?   Maybe cancer will never be cured.  Plus, why do people want everyone to live a long life.   I imagine a good portion of population would starve or suffer in some way if that was the case.
