MIAMI (Reuters) - A Florida toddler was strangled on Wednesday by a 12-foot (3.6-meter) albino Burmese python that escaped from a holding tank in the girl's home, authorities said.
The pet's owner, a boyfriend of the child's mother, found the python on top of the 2-year-old girl in the rural community of Oxford, about 50 miles northwest of Orlando.
The python apparently broke free in the night, entered the girl's bedroom and attacked her.
"This is very rare," Patricia Behnke of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission told reporters.
The owner stabbed the snake when he found it on the child but she was dead when emergency crews arrived, the Orlando Sentinel newspaper said. It said he was being questioned and could face child endangerment charges.
Wildlife officials are increasingly concerned about the proliferation of non-native pythons in Florida's wilderness areas.
State officials say there may be as many as 150,000 Burmese pythons, which are native to Southeast Asia, living in the wild in the Everglades, where they have no natural predator.
Wildlife experts say the population grew from snakes dumped in the fragile wetlands by pet owners who no longer wanted them and pose a significant threat to native species.
The pythons can grow to more than 16 feet, live for 30 years and eat wading birds and small animals. Experts say snake enthusiasts buy them when they are small but cannot handle them when they grow to full size.
Florida Senator Bill Nelson introduced a bill in the U.S. Congress in February to ban the importation and interstate trade of the reptiles.

I can't imagine what that poor baby was feeling while she had the life crushed out of her.. :'(People who have potentially dangerous pets should have to undergo certain training and be required to register the animal with the county just like a handgun. >:(

Why the fuck do people need a snake, an alligator, tiger or even an attack dog in their home?
it's ridiculous. ESPECIALLY when you have kids. these are wild animals, or trained to kill animals, you cannot for one second be sure they won't attack you, or your kids.

If there's one thing I know in this world, it's that you can't fix stupid. And if a person reaches adulthood without having learned common sense, then they're going to go through life without it....sorta like my idiot fucking ex-wife who let the dog eat chocolate tonite.
Oh, but that's not even the issue...dog is clearly sick, but instead of looking up some info on what to do - or calling me and letting me handle it - she's sitting there watching fucking TV when I get to the house to drop off some stuff for her.
Dog lived with me for the previous 10 days while she went out of town, so I think I'm going to keep him up here for a while until she gets her shit straight.

there was a documentary on TV about a guy that had an 8m Anconda in his home. They had to move it to a bigger place, tried to grab the snake with 6 grown up men, but halfway through the snake shook a little and the guy flew through the apartment like paper planes.

Yet, someone sells his buddy a few ounces of weed, and he's going away for 2 years.

nobody said the law and justice is fair - My problem is that people tend to get all chocked up over small minor single incidents.
I know I sound horrible but I don't really care - so what one kid died? So what a Pyton crushed it....it cannot be particular funny to be ejected from your child seat through the car frontwindow and being subsequently impaled by a tree branch - that happens all the time.
I hate all these do gooders who cannot wait for the next chance to air "their oppinion" to ban this or ban that just because a tragic incident happened ONE TIME.
Uh oh what about the children we have to worry about the children - save the children.

And If I realy try I can just about imagine (or think I can imagine) what it must feel like - If I really want to have a small taste what it must be like I try to imagine that my wife who I love over everything died... And who says the life would have been good? I mean if the fucking dad was dumb enough to share the house with a 12 foot pyton god knows what would have been in store for the child at a later stage... Just saying.
Its just that we always tend to assume and make judgment so fast - child dies of head trauma because it went to fast and hit its head on the curb... well fuck me - ALL CHILDREN need to wear a helmet now.

My friends brother was killed due to a drunk driver driving into his lane wanting to kill himself (my frinds brother was a truck driver).
Anyway my brother friend went off the road, hit a ditch flew out the window and ot got run over by his own truck and the drunk driver survived.
I still to this day cant phantom the fact that he didnt take care of the drunk person.
I almost dont speak to him anymore because of just that.

Australia is pretty safe. Sweden too I would imagine. Pedos exist but so does salmonella, tsunamis, and pop music. You take precautions, do what you can, hope for the best and prepare for the worst, etc.

I keep snakes: Anacondas (both Green and Yellow), Retic python (extremely intelligent), African rock python and some Australian species among others.
I find them beautiful and interesting. Almost all my animals are captive bred and quite "tame" for example the reticulated python is soft as a puppy as are the anacondas but the African rock python is something else; I only trust myself to handle her, and all the others are held by family under my watch.
All are kept in secured vivariums with no chance of escape (glass is also strengthened). The only time you're in danger of a bite is if you get the scent of rodents on your hands or interrupt them whilst eating... I also only trust myself to feed them.
Quite frankly the person keeping the snake in the article is a idiot; other people interested in herpetology and reptile keeping aren't simply because of one extreme case.
How many idiots posting in this thread think drugs should be legal yet whine when the media portrays a case where the murderer/thief was under the influence of drugs when the crime was committed... ::)

MIAMI (Reuters) - A Florida toddler was strangled on Wednesday by a 12-foot (3.6-meter) albino Burmese python that escaped from a holding tank in the girl's home, authorities said.
The pet's owner, a boyfriend of the child's mother, found the python on top of the 2-year-old girl in the rural community of Oxford, about 50 miles northwest of Orlando.
The python apparently broke free in the night, entered the girl's bedroom and attacked her.
"This is very rare," Patricia Behnke of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission told reporters.
The owner stabbed the snake when he found it on the child but she was dead when emergency crews arrived, the Orlando Sentinel newspaper said. It said he was being questioned and could face child endangerment charges.
Wildlife officials are increasingly concerned about the proliferation of non-native pythons in Florida's wilderness areas.
State officials say there may be as many as 150,000 Burmese pythons, which are native to Southeast Asia, living in the wild in the Everglades, where they have no natural predator.
Wildlife experts say the population grew from snakes dumped in the fragile wetlands by pet owners who no longer wanted them and pose a significant threat to native species.
The pythons can grow to more than 16 feet, live for 30 years and eat wading birds and small animals. Experts say snake enthusiasts buy them when they are small but cannot handle them when they grow to full size.
Florida Senator Bill Nelson introduced a bill in the U.S. Congress in February to ban the importation and interstate trade of the reptiles.

for the same reasons people get hummers, or create a virtual tough guy persona in the gym etc
because of past traumas and insecurities, because of short/smal man/dick syndroms etc etc
Basically any kind of extreme atitude/behavior results from an unbalance in people's minds they try to compensate (and that is easy for other people to spot...) doing something overthetop . Compensation for a lack of something in their education/conditionning. It often orginates from someone's childhood or teenage years. The irony is that these insecure people are often trapped in the characters they built more than they benefit from em, as you cannot spend your whole life pretending to be the same character. People must change/adapt due to various factors , one being aging, but they just cant due to the underdevelopment of their mind. Being able to face a reality check requires humility and to abandon the apparence of their toughness. At some point you cant be the same old narrow minded and extremistic useless individual because we are not meant to stay the same for our whole life, even if some major traits of our personalities can hardly be changed. Just make sure these major traits of your personnality are positive to you and those you share your life with. Most people cultivate the wrong traits of their personalities and then have a hard time to counter em after years or decades spent strengehtening these traits believing it was a good thing to do, when in fact they figure it's not later in their life.
Then comes the time for a psychoterapy... or they keep on destroying themselves and their loved ones (if they have any) lives.
They also transmit these negatives traits to their kids if they have any.
