SEOUL, South Korea -- North Korea test-fired three short-range missiles Thursday, South Korea's Defense Ministry said, a move that aggravates already high tensions following Pyongyang's recent nuclear test and U.N. sanctions imposed as punishment.
Two ground-to-ship missiles were fired from the eastern coastal city of Wonsan on Thursday afternoon, a ministry official said on condition of anonymity citing department policy.
The North also fired a third missile later from the east coast, but the exact site and the type of a rocket was not immediately known, the official said. Yonhap news agency, citing an unnamed military official, reported all three missiles flew about 60 miles (100 kilometers) and identified them as KN-01 missiles with a range of up to 100 miles (160 kilometers).
North Korea had earlier called for a no-sail zone in waters off its east coast through July 10 for military drills. That designation was viewed as a prelude to such missile tests.
The launches came as North Korea's relations with the United States, South Korea and other countries were already severely strained after its May 25 underground nuclear test and a series of missile firings. The U.N. Security Council adopted a tough sanctions resolution last month to punish the communist regime.
"We had expected that they will fire short-range missiles at any time," South Korea's Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan told The Associated Press at a reception held at the U.S. ambassador's residence to mark Independence Day on July 4, which falls this weekend. "It's not a good sign because they are demonstrating their military power."

these went 60 miles and plunked down in NK waters.
Bb and other pacifists aren't worried about the long-range ones he plans on testing in 2 days either.

A regional threat, but I won't be cutting off my beach trips anytime soon. Especially not when I see battleships and military jets all over the place. :)
Definitely concerned about our boys across the DMZ though.

Don't worry about our boys across the DMZ....Kim won't dare attack because that would be the total annihilation of his country and then he would have to live in china....and there would be no dynasty to pass on to his sons.....that would be humiliating.....Kim is all bluff..he is a good poker player though

to tell you the truth...me too.....you never know with Kim

If some country in the carribean was firing missiles at Florida, I sure as hell wouldn't be smiling saying "eh, we'll probably stop them".
I'd be pissed, and hoping my country dropped a lot of hardware on the bastards threatening to blow me up.
I admire your sympathy for the enemy, BB. I've never been a pacifist myself. But I admire you for it.

There aren't that many of our boys left, across the Z now. Kim has done way more now then he's ever done. He's always done one thing, backed off and waited for our response. This time its a constant stream of bullshit. He doesn't need to win, he just needs to take Seoul.

If he goes in a grabs Soeul world opinion will not be in his favor. It will be the Korean war all over again and Slapper will call it a UN hit.
It's not going to happen.

Destroyers, subs, cruisers, frigates, and I'm sure I've seen aircraft carriers. I can see Pearl Harbor from my office. I can also see the airport. The military uses the Honolulu International Airport to take off all the time. Pretty neat, but you have to be looking at just the right time to them take off.

It's not going to happen.
What he wants is to take Seoul and then appeal to the UN. He then expects a UN imposed cease fire, which with Barry in, he'd get. Anything from that point forward would benefit nKorea. They'd rape the South.

I agree with you that that would be Kim's strategy..take seoul, inflict heavy damage and then appeal to the UN for a cease fire...the U.N. pussies will appeal for the cease fire but no U.S. president will accept a cease fire at that point......the U.S. will retaliate with every thing including the kitchen sink and will exact punishing damage on North Korea....the U.S. will hit them with missiles from submarines, and shit like that...they will sink the NK navy and will destroy the infrastructure of kim's army....that country will never recover again.....and also....Kim's troops will begin to defect because they will not have a country to go back to....
of course Seoul will be totally destroyed as well but in the long run, SK will survive and move on....unless china decides to punish U.S. and SK by invading and destroying SK in retaliation
Kim would be taking a big chance by letting his army cross the border...they may not come back and the regime would crumble

I was just shocked today... listening to CNN... "NK says they'll fire on the US on saturday".
I mean, I'm shocked. Another country - with nukes - has declared they'll just choose July 4th to fire weapons at our people.
Honestly, we have the bush doctrine of pre-emption if we feel threatened. I think something along the lines of "We're gonna fire rockets at you in 2 days" is quite a threat.
I don't understand why Obama didn't put missiles at them the moment they announced intent to launch at us.
When the pacifist argument is "oh, those missiles probably won't hit us".... I see the ultimate in lib cowtowing to terrorists. Iraq never had nukes, and they never fired missiles at a US state.

SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea threatened Wednesday to wipe the United States off the map as Washington and its allies watched for signs the regime will launch a series of missiles in the coming days.
Off China's coast, a U.S. destroyer was tailing a North Korean ship suspected of transporting illicit weapons to Myanmar in what could be the first test of U.N. sanctions passed to punish the nation for an underground nuclear test last month.
The Kang Nam left the North Korean port of Nampo a week ago with the USS John S. McCain close behind. The ship, accused of transporting banned goods in the past, is believed bound for Myanmar, according to South Korean and U.S. officials.
The new U.N. Security Council resolution requires member states to seek permission to inspect suspicious cargo. North Korea has said it would consider interception a declaration of war and on Wednesday accused the U.S. of seeking to provoke another Korean War.
"If the U.S. imperialists start another war, the army and people of Korea will ... wipe out the aggressors on the globe once and for all," the official Korean Central News Agency said.
The warning came on the eve of the 59th anniversary of the start of the three-year Korean War, which ended in a truce in 1953, not a peace treaty, leaving the peninsula in state of war.
The U.S. has 28,500 troops in South Korea to protect against an outbreak of hostilities.
Tensions have been high since North Korea launched a long-range rocket in April and then conducted its second underground atomic test on May 25.
Reacting to U.N. condemnation of that test, North Korea walked away from nuclear disarmament talks and warned it would fire a long-range missile.
North Korea has banned ships from the waters off its east coast starting Thursday through July 10 for military exercises, Japan's Coast Guard said.
South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported Wednesday that the North may fire a Scud missile with a range of up to 310 miles (500 kilometers) or a short-range ground-to-ship missile with a range of 100 miles (160 kilometers) during the no-sail period.
A senior South Korean government official said the no-sail ban is believed connected to North Korean plans to fire short- or mid-range missiles. He spoke on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.
U.S. defense and counterproliferation officials in Washington said they also expected the North to launch short- to medium-range missiles. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive intelligence.
South Korea will expedite the introduction of high-tech unmanned aerial surveillance systems and "bunker-buster" bombs in response to North Korea's provocations, the Chosun Ilbo newspaper said, citing unidentified ruling party members.
Meanwhile, a flurry of diplomatic efforts were under way to try getting North Korea to return to disarmament talks.
Russia's top nuclear envoy, Alexei Borodavkin, said after meeting with his South Korean counterpart that Moscow is open to other formats for discussion since Pyongyang has pulled out of formal six-nation negotiations.
In Beijing, top U.S. and Chinese defense officials also discussed North Korea. U.S. Defense Undersecretary Michele Flournoy was heading next to Tokyo and Seoul for talks.
South Korea has proposed high-level "consultations" to discuss North Korea with the U.S., Russia, China and Japan.

Why is SK so inept?
SK by rights should put NKs dick in the dirt with any argument they might have. First-world US-backed military vs. soviet-style bum rush tactics.
wtf?
-
They're not enept at all, but they're also not going to upset the apple cart. They're asian and they're business is to keep their economy clicking along. If the nKoreans come, they'll kick the shit out of them, but its going to be supremely costly.
-
Shit, move the capital to Pusan and it won't be such an issue.
Seoul being where it is is like me parking my BMW on the south side of the street and expecting the cholos on the north side not to get ideas about it.

Listen jerkoff, I am asking you which NORTH KOREAN OFFICIAL, not Japanese, not a news agency, actually said those words?
What is being diseminated out there SO THAT EVERYONE KNOWS is something a JAPANESE government official INSINUATED, as usual, based on personal opinion. I do have to says the NKs do want some Japanese ass for what they did to them back in WWII, but to say that the NKs are going to attack Hawaii or mainland US is like saying I can build Yankee stadium by myself with a few bricks, couple thousand nails and plywood sheets and a hammer.
guy PLEASE!!!!
