It's true.
Inhofe: Al Franken a 'Clown from Minnesota'
Friday, July 3, 2009 6:54 AM
By: Rick Pedraza
Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., acrimoniously referred to his new colleague in the U.S. Senate as a “clown” who won’t be able to help his party muster the 60 votes needed to stop a Republican filibuster of the Waxman-Markey clean energy bill that has already passed the House.
"I'll tell you what a lot of people are thinking, and that is it looks like things are going to be over and we are going to get the clown from Minnesota,” Inhofe told The Tulsa World, referring to Minnesota Democrat Al Franken. “They are not going to get more than 35 votes."
Inhofe later was contrite and said he didn't mean to be disrespectful of Franken.
“I don't know the guy, but for a living, he is a clown. That's what he does for a living."
Franken, who earlier this week was declared the winner by the Minnesota Supreme Court of a hotly contested election against Republican rival Norman Coleman, was a professional comedian who was a writer for and cast member of “Saturday Night Live” for several years. He also is a best-selling author, former political commentator and host of a nationally-syndicated radio show on Air America.
"I don't know how Sen. Inhofe regards clowns,” Franken volleyed back during an appearance on the "Bill Press Show," “but it might be an incredible compliment.”

No suprise here. Inhofe is one of biggest right wing douchebags in the Senate and not exactly a mental giant.
Here's a simple rule of thumb. The more conservative someone is the greater chance they are not that bright. The less bright someone is the more they feel threatened by people smarter than themselves. You can see perfect examples of this on GetBig.
Exceptions to this rule would be people like Gingrich who are clearly bright but pursue a radical right wing agenda because of delusions of grandeur and desire for dictatorial-like power. The reason for this is the people like Gingrich know that the more conservative you are the dumber you are and the more likely you are to respond to an authoritative leader.
According to Wiki:
Inhofe received a B.A. degree from the University of Tulsa in 1973, at the age of 38
Inhofe often cites the Bible as the source for his positions on various political issues.
In his business career, Inhofe was a real estate developer and became president of the Quaker Life Insurance Company. That company went into receivership while he managed it; it was liquidated in 1986
Fraken on the other hand:
graduated from Harvard with honors
wrote 5 best selling books
served as a Fellow with Harvard's Kennedy School of Government at the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy.
and, to the point of being a "clown", Franken has served as a volunteer with the United Service Organizations since he first visited Kosovo in 1999. Franken has conducted several overseas tours to both Iraq and Afghanistan, in addition to participating in numerous celebrity handshake tours at military hospitals to visit wounded soldiers. On March 25, 2009, Franken was presented with the USO's Merit Award for his 10 years of service to the organization through visiting injured and deployed servicemembers

you have a clown like franken winning a job as a senator over a repub incumbent.
you have the VP nominee quitting her governor job after only serving 60% of her term to work on TV.

Maybe Inhofe is afraid that with Franken in the Senate it will be that much harder for him to be effective as a blatant whore for the oil companies.
Maybe he's just like some posters on this board who feel inferior and as a defense mechanism, project their inferiority complex onto others. These people are anti-intellectual, paranoid and fearful of anyone who might reveal how stupid they truly are. They also tend to crave an authoritarian figure to give them simple answers to complex problems.
Let's not forget that Inhofe has a history of saying really stupid things. A perfect example would be his comments on the morning of the Oklahoma City Bombing (where 168 men, women and children lost their lives and another 680+ were injured) when he "outraged federal employees on the day of the Oklahoma City bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building by stating on National television that there probably weren't very many casualties because federal employees wouldn't be at their desks at 9:00 instead they would be off having coffee somewhere."
Another gem from Inhofe: "He made a speech before the U.S. Senate which included the explicit suggestion that the 9/11 attacks were a form of divine retribution against the U.S. for failing to defend Israel. In his words: "One of the reasons I believe the spiritual door was opened for an attack against the United States of America is that the policy of our Government has been to ask the Israelis, and demand it with pressure, not to retaliate in a significant way against the terrorist strikes that have been launched against them."

It doesnt matter if Franken is a clown or not.Lets hope Inhofe is 100% correct about cap and trade.I wouldnt care if it turned out Inhofe was inbread as long as he helps stop cap and trade.
By the way,Bush graduated from the Ivy leagues but I never hear the left say hes smart.Funny how they have selective accomplishments.

the more I learn about Cap and Trade the more I disagree with it.
speaking of Ivy League graduates. Do you remember how Rove was recently quoted as saying he knew a lot of dumb people who graduated from Ivy League schools. I wonder if he was referring to his former boss

I don't think Bush is really stupid. I just think he's not that interested in learning anything.
He liked being a figure head, a spoke person, a cheerleader. I didn't get the impression he liked to think about things very much

He lost me with Amnesty, NCLH, CFR, and the prescription drug mess.
of course there were many other disasters of his sole making, but those really pissed me off.
