This is terrible. Looks like the Afghan military is now directly helping the Taliban.
There is no way these incidents could be happening so close together without inside involvement.
What is NATO going to do. They can't even trust the people they are supposed to help.
This fight went from bad to horrible.
Time to get rid of that idiot running the country, Hamid Karzai.

LONDON, England (CNN) -- The commander of a British regiment has become the country's highest-ranking soldier to be killed in action since 1982's Falklands War after he was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.
Lt. Col. Rupert Thorneloe, 40, was killed along with trooper Joshua Hammond, 18, Wednesday as they were traveling along a canal in Lashkar Gah, in Afghanistan's southern Helmand Province, the British Ministry of Defense said.

PESHAWAR - Taliban militants with help of their “sympathisers” within Afghan armed forces have kidnapped a United States Military official along with three companions from Yousafkhel district of Paktika province, sources disclosed on Thursday.
As per details, a couple of days ago, the US official along with their Afghan colleagues visited Yousafkhel, the area bordering with Pakistan’s Waziristan, in connection with inspection of the border check-posts. The personnel of the Afghan Army there served the US official and his companions with drinks.
After taking the drinks, all of them became unconscious and Taliban militants took them into their custody with help of their “sympathisers” within Afghan Army.

This isn't the first time....
I didn't think so, but 3 high profile incidents in 4 day. This is real bad.
Sounds like Pakistan is orchestrating all of this and now you guys can't shoot into civilian areas.
This is not good. These rules of engagement remind me of why America pulled out of Vietnam.

I'm curious as to who is behind the new ROE.

The stricter rules of engagement were laid down in a "tactical directive" sent to all foreign forces in Afghanistan by U.S. army Gen. Stanley McChrystal who was President Barack Obama's recent choice to take over the NATO-led war here.
"The guidance to the troops clarifies that citizens are the centre of gravity and that we should do everything to gain their support and we must do everything to avoid civilian casualties," Col. Greg Julian, the top U.S. military spokesman in Afghanistan, said in an interview at the International Security Assistance Force headquarters in Kabul.

Yeah..I know Joker....but this doesn't sound like Stan. I would have said these won't make much difference if we're using SOF but the Marines just went into Helmand and are kicking the shit out of the Taliban. As long as it works...

Guys-- Why are you complaining; This is Americas Fault!
Charlie Wilsons war was a farce+ So were the USA's post 911 attacks! If we just realize that America is wrong, and everyone else is right, the corageous and innocent patriots killed by these monsters and their active/ passive supporters will like us AND respect us more and stop killing!
Obama has got it right! Why can't you guys get with the program! ::)
-
Ur right..I'm gonna turn in my M4...worship Sal Alinsky and become TA.

Thank you HH6-- Now we are making progress. Now if only the entire rest of the USA's military follows suit--- We just might have the revolution all of the cloest homosexuals and cowards in Congress have all been hoping for. KEEP SURRENDER ALIVE! :'(

I would further push for Obama to critize our allies such as Israel, find common ground with Chavez and Castro, allow nKorea to do what they want, and try and not upset the Iranian jihadists by backing those horrible protestors. Oh wait...... :(

Sometimes you have to fight from inside.
He did get allowances that let field commanders decide how much force is needed.
So maybe he is playing from both sides.
He has a tough job.
Obama is canceling every reasonable program soon you guys will be fighting with flowers and bird seed and our prime minster is lining up to kiss his ass every step of the way.
Good Luck.
