can you guys explain to me what the color things (blue yellow red) squares mean on the washing mashing control panel and on the dryer's control panel?

it s some old used stuff we got for 150 bucks here in canada. Works like a charm but my girl ruined some tshirts polos and shorts the last time for some reasons we re still trying to understand. Basically all the clothes shrinked dramatically... maybe because she washed/dryed em at a too high temperature...
looks like i have to take these things into my own hands >:(

I never do my own laundry; I don't even go into the laundry room. My basket of dirty clothes is taken away and brought back with everything laundered and nicely folded. ;D

somehow i have the feeling you re not the only one on here (with me) who have absolutely no clue on how these machines work. They re all pretending they know yet a very very few useful answers (only one in fact) or indications have been posted.
I bet most of you on here are as clueless as i am when looking at these symbols/hyeroglyphs.

Timed dry is just choosing the amount of minutes you want the dryer to run.
Air would be for your "delicates" ;)
I looked at mine to see what Auto/normal is...the best I can come up w/is that you'd set it to Max for maximum drying, medium for medium and min for minimum drying....some people will dry things a bit and then hang them to avoid shrinkage. I've never used that cycle so I'm not sure about it.

in the second pic i posted (dryer) ,
there is something that looks like a yelow square, a red stroke flatiron and a red square.
Do you think it might mean: warm / for clothes that cant be "flatironed"/ HOT or smthg like that?
also my gf obviously inverted the hot water and cold water pipes connected to the hot and cold water tapers. See, it's interesting sometimes to take a second look at what people who are suposed to be in the know did.

Auto dry is a feature of drying where you select how much moisture you want in your laundry...It works like this: There is an electronic thermometer in the exhaust of your dryer, measuring how hot the exhaust is, another one is measuring the temperature of the hot air before it goes into the clothes drum. An electronic circuit compares the difference between the two. Early in the cycle when the clothes are very wet, the evaporating water cools the air going through the drum to the exhaust, so the difference between the two temperatures are great. As the clothes dry, there is less water to cool the exhaust so the temperature difference between the two decreases, and thus can be looked upon as a measure how much water is left in the clothing. When you set the dryer for more dry, the dryer turns off when the difference between the two temperatures reach a set ratio that is narrower than if the dryer is set for less dry.

I have enough (work) clothes in my closet to go for a month without fresh laundry if I had to. He's never been too sick to cook or do the laundry though. I did my own laundry in college, if that makes you feel better.
