Title: In America, everybody loves a winner; How's your "country" towards achievers?
Post by: Alex23 on July 25, 2009, 10:09:03 PM
Couple of years back I was in a sales offsite meeting with reps from around the globe.

We went go karting one night; the French dudes wouldn't even participate and hung outside smoking and yapping how "stupid" this was.

The British were good sport but non-competitive.

The Italian dude was doing pretty good but cheated every chances he got. The Germans couldn't figure the bake vs. gas pedal concept and kept crashing in the walls.

After the race, only the American reps seemed to be in good spirit and congratulating the winner....

Only in America... that a bunch of Yankees would stand and defy the "holier than thou" British empire...

Only in America.. that people of all "colors" and creed would come to be inventive and industrious...

Only in America... that some smart schmoe made the first transcontinental telephone call

Only in America... that inventive entrepreneur would theme a place http://www.heartattackgrill.com/

Only in America... that a black kid from Lousiana would grow to 295lb onstage with abs.

U.K hates winners

So true...there is such a support the underdog mentality. People who win are sneered at, or envied and put down.

FFS when the British Cycling team cleaned house at the Olympics dickheads were writing that our dominance was a bad thing and might ruin the sport and upset people. CAN YOU EVER IMAGINE THE AUSSIES SAYING THAT? they'd be 'yep 20 years more of the same please, screw what anyone else thinks'

I get so tired of reading about how our brave and battling sportsman finish third or fourth or whatever...I don't care, for a country with as much funding and depth of talent as there is in Britain, particularly for football, it is not brave and battling to lose, it's a disgrace.

Really wish the mentality would change, seems to have been made even worse by all this reality tv crap that basically tells average brain dead idiots that they can get on TV and become famous for doing nothing. There was a recent survey done of kids who when asked what they wanted to be said 'a celebrity'...jeez I wanted to be a pro footballer, or a top rugby player, or failing that a fireman...something really wrong in a country when your kid tells you their dream is to be a celebrity

Australia carries the tall poppy syndrome. If you are good they try and tear you down.

Example, 'Do you think you can dance'. I freakin' love the American show, the bodies on the girls are unreal. When you get someone like that in OZ, all the fat jealous bitches vote her off. The last few might have a good body from dancing but a head like a smashed asshole.

You guys do seem very harsh i have read a few articles recently on the cricket where no matter what the English team does they rip you down.

My mate went over there a few years back, he said any hot girl he spoke to wanted two things, to be a model and to marry a 'footballer'  ::).

to tear down a winner and destoy a person's life through the media.  that's a bit more accurate.

as far as the poster above...they're too stupid and caught up in BS and corruption to do anything about their sagging economy.

remember
socialist countries disparage achievement
the very nature of socialism discourages motivation
look at French youth....worried about their pensions at 20 yrs of age
laze fucks

Obama=sucking away at American innovation and motivation
