nt my mustang to be faster, louder, better looking, and have a better stereo system.
as far as faste goes, i was thinkiing of putting a super charger... but the thing is i dont know jack about cars im just going by what ive been told and the limited info i can find through google.
what do you guys think about this super charger = http://www.paxtonauto.com/product.php?id=104
for the rest of the upgrades im going to re paint it (same color), new tires and rims (going from 18's to 20's) with lower profile tires, puttin in two 12's in my trunk (or maybe three 10's), and even though its got dual exhaust flow masters i think ill upgrade my exhuast so its a bit louder.

Ask Bench, and some others. But for what's it worth save you money. If want a faster car, it's better to save and buy one. Like a used E46 M3, or a new one, or a Lexus IS-F. Or save you money for a house or for school. If try to sell your car, you WILL NOT get the money that you put into it. Best thing to do is SAVE YOUR MONEY! I can't tell you how many ricers that are near me, that are broke, and live off of their girlfriends or parents. And they have SEVERE cred card debt. And when they try to sell the car, they have shit...because nobody wanta a tuner car..tuner cars are run into the ground.
Not a Stang fanatic (except for the 68-70), because they tend to have cheap interiors, are more loud than they are powerful, and the solid rear axle sucks over bumps and expansion joints...But the aftermarket has tons of things for the Stang...
Coincidently, most tuner guys are either skinny or fat, they have no money to work out. Check some comments from the editors of "Modified", they are always claiming to sacrifice something to put more on a car...Like not goin out with girlfriends, or buying clothes.

That's why I said save his money. You soon have to start thing about diminishing returns. You've been around the Exotics and driven them, it's a lot diff than driving a modded Mustang or Supra...and when they say that they can beat, and do beat a Viper, other car, when asked, which would they rahter have, it's the car they say that they can beat.
I firmly believe one of the main reasons why our econoy is in the tank was because people didn't save. I used to see dudes just burning up their cred cars buying turbochargers and superchargers, and I almost fell into it, wanted to do the whole turbo thing with my Lexus IS300, then thought was too much, then the supercharger (Vortec), with is roughly 6K, that's 6K that I could have saved or invested or used to develop a invention. Hell, learn from the Jews and Asians, not from MTV, VH1 or BET, they will have you broke.

the new r1 is overrated, i have always hated the gsxr because its a top heavy piece of shit, its all about the Kawasaki, and the Honda's this year.
i rode the new r1, and i like the 08, and 07's more. the gsxr was as unimpressive as ever. the zx10 is good (i think the 04/05 models are the best). the Honda's are ugly as shit, but good luck beating them.
i liked pretty much all of the 600's except the gsxr.they were all great bikes but i would never buy one, i am just a liter bike guy.

bbk long tube headers, bbk x pipe, slp loud mouth exhaust. it will be plenty loud after this.
if you need torque, dig into the engine and go with full forged internals bore and stroke a little(and i mean a little) port the heads, grab some modular powerhouse cams, and upgrade your fuel system. crank the boost to about 15-18 lbs, and have fun. then when all the power is to much, get a new clutch new axles new driveshaft, new spider gears, new transmission, and you should be fine......oh then you will probably need better brakes to slow you down since you have a really fast car now, so all that shit needs to be upgraded.
but now that all your shit is going and stopping right, you have to stiffen the chassis or its going to twist and since all that power has given you traction problems you have to address it or you just spin your tires instead of going anywere, and the car will still be useless in the rain...................d o you see were i am going with this!!!
just get the blower and exhaust and leave it at that. if you want something fast build a race car, or buy a motorcycle.
the speed game is nothing but a money pit!!

Just be careful. I have an 03 Mach 1 with exhaust, intake, tune, 4.10s, etc. The only thing left is a supercharger but if not done right the car is ruined.
I'd be looking at $8k parts and labor. Worth the cost? Maybe. But if you're gonna do it make sure it's done right.

I say if Detroit cant build it for you, do it yourself. Get yourself a Vortec or T Trim, or even a new paxton and kick some foreign iron ass. Look at the new Shelby 500. Its just brutal what a super charger can do on a fuel injected car!

Gotta love this thread. I have had Mustangs my whole life. Just recently purchased a 2008 Shebly GT500. Paid under sticker for it, which is really rare. Like the guy above said. Modular Powerhouse is the shit. I have gone through them on a lot of the work I did to my 02 Mustang GT. They are top notch, customer service is second to none.

A roots style blower would be better in terms of bottom end torque, compared to that of a centrifugal. I've got a Vortech S-Trim V.2 on my '03 Marauder and though it's got top end to beat hell, it doesn't have the bottom end punch of a roots style blower. I've got 4.10 rear gears and a 3000 stall to make up for that though.

I would go with a Kenne Bell. That is what's goin on my cousins 04.... Motor can be run stock on 9psi and must be intercooled. 162 hp increase = 65% gain. $5000.you can also buy a tuner kit, 9-26 psi, but motor must be forged to handle stress. if your gonna do it go with the best.

mustangs are heavy,not aerodynamics and slow. i really don't see the point of modding one, they give impressive hp numbers but are hardly fast enough to justify the money you spend.
you'll get that famous mustang trademark supercharger whine too ;D
sell it and get a stock 01 corvette z06.. it will beat your modded stang easily.

Agreed, Kenne Bell blowers are bad ass. I'd go with that, or a Whipple blower from Ford Racing.

Mustangs aftermarket parts are dirt cheap and you can make them pretty damn fast in a straight line. Plenty of modded mustangs beat Z06's all the time. Also, Candi, look at the Cervini Stalker Kits(bodykits) for your car. Priced pretty good and they look pretty mean.

i had that same mustang in the 90's...the 4.6 liter is more than fast enough for the everyday grind.
Don't sink any more money into it..PS no one will give you anything for it when you try to sell it/trade it in

That's the thing.........you really gottta set yourself a limit on how much you can spend. No point spending $10k on a car cause come sale time you will be lucky if you get another $2k for it. Mods don't add a whole lot to the price of a car, paticularly an older, average car. If you are going to spend all the money on it, you will want to plan on keeping it for a while.

I'd go with the PI intake manifold, and ported PI heads with an aftermarket cam with a good tune. No boost to worry about, no detonation issues, no need for a forged bottom end with 9.5:1 compression ratio.

Mods don't add a whole lot to the price of a car, paticularly an older, average car. If you are going to spend all the money on it, you will want to plan on keeping it for a while.
that's what I said in the beginning. There is this guy near me, he had a IS300, basically it was 500-600+ hp car, with all the aftermarket goodies one could stick in the car, put aprox. 80k in it. He said he needed to sell it to buy a house. He sold it to a dude in Russia for 20K. So he wasted money, plus now the Russian dude has a car that has been run into the ground.

I think modifications actually decrease the value of the car. Any potential buyer who knows a little more than shit about automobiles should assume that if a car has been modded (i.e. intake, exhaust, turbo, supercharger, fuck...even if I see taillights/headlights done I get suspicious) it's probably been beaten on at some point in the past. Obviously this is not true for EVERY case, but it's a safe and reliable assumption to make when you're buying from someone you don't know. If I buy a used car, I look for one with everything stock unless I know the seller personally and trust them.
Also, I admit I have a lot of learning to do when it comes to cars...but the general consensus among people I know who are into them is that putting superchargers and turbos on cars that don't already have them decreases the lifetime of your car and is a pain in the ass. You need to sink a lot of money into your car to make sure its mechanisms can handle the newly added power a supercharger/turbo would offer.
Could be wrong on that one, but I think it's accurate...

Not fat at all. It Is just a really uncomfortable ride. If you are over 200lbs it definitely is quite frustrating in the car.

I used to live near a dude who had the 405 HP Z06, and he was over 6 feet and well over 200 pounds, and when he drove it, he always had a smile, that was his primary car. What you just stated is what people who have tried driving the new 370Z, and they "claim" that if you are over 6'2 you won't fit, yet many people on the forums claim otherwise.
The seats of the Corvette are not that supportive for a sport car, and especially for the stratosphere that they Z06 plays in.

All good points. Freind of mine has an H2 and put 80K into the thing, all the custom sounds and exterior stuff! Is selling it now for $25,000 :'( cause thats all its worth on the market.
About the vettes I will take an 09 Z06 with the LS7 and a 6 speed and I think thats all you would want or need as far as sports cars go. Big displacement and tourqe under the curve.

Being able to pull this off is worth forgoing any future plans of getting out of his parents spare bedroom or furthuring himself in general.

Personally, I would not recommend Lambo doors on a Stang. I find that very tacky. In the end though, it's your car, and the only one that needs to like it is you, so mod it in a way that makes you happy. And as far as any negative comments others may make about your ride, pay it no mind. Some people act as though everybody should have 100K to just drop down on an exotic ride, which isn't logical. I admire anyone that takes pride in their car and tries to make it into something unique for themselves.

And as far as any negative comments others may make about your ride, pay it no mind. Some people act as though everybody should have 100K to just drop down on an exotic ride, which isn't logical. ^^In either case, he is modding a 96-98 SN95 that prolly has over 100K and is worth 3K. Prolly not the best use of his money. But if he wants the car to last, he is looking at a rebuild. Then he can add a power adder. I'd also add a new clutch, billet flywheel, FRPP aluminum driveshaft, change out the gearing and make the switch to 31 spline axles.

Disagree - a turbo diesel is a far cry from a hi-perf turbo gasoline application. Diesels make big torque and not necessarily big horsepower - again there are exceptions to every rule but aside from Gale Banks and maybe a couple of other fringe outfits there is not a big selection of high HP turbo diesels.
The only turbos that I have seen that deliver on the low end AND the high end are twin-turbo systems like that found in the 911 Turbo - a small turbo spools up at low rpm and provides instant boost at lower engine speeds and then as RPM increases the larger turbo takes over and force feeds even more air into the motor.
I'm not bashing turbos at all - they are capable of making big HP but a single turbo WILL lack on low end typically compared to a comparable supercharger. Both applications have their place but neither is perfect....it all depends on what kind of motor you are looking to build. To say that superchargers are "old news" is a bit premature.

its a lost cause, i have built 1000+hp daily driver and have driven countless fast cars. i have completely given up on them now.
at the end of the day you just cant beat the pure thrill and satisfaction you get from a liter bike.
you spend a shit ton of money building a 9 second car, only to get outran by a stock liter bike.
you cant drive a 9 second car in the rain/you cant ride a bike in the rain.
you have to get a second vehicle.............bike or car, so save your money and buy a bike.........bitches like bikes better anyways.

I mod BMW's and Porsches, like some have said, it's a hobby, if you got the cash/time, go for it. I just don't understand the people who save all thier money and put it all towards the cars though, that's stupidity.

Agreed. I have a car with a few things done only because I had the EXTRA money to play with. I had a friend who spent his life savings putting $18k worth of mods into a $5k 91 GT Mustang. Four years later some mexicans stripped the car, stole the engine, and now he feels pretty stupid.

96-98 stangs are slow. i know i had one. I would buy some trick flow heads and intake and some comp cams/trick flow cams and TB CAI, headers and exhaust before boosting with that cheap plastic intake manifold.

Exactly. Got a 96 Vert with a 98 engine that has forged internals, ported PI heads, LT, X pipe, exhaust, 75 mm tb, big mouth plenum, CAI, 90 mm MAF and CAI, and I only dynoed 313 to the wheels. A stock LS1 with minor bolt ons will smoke it.
