Title: Thoughts on this car purchase?
Post by: GroinkTropin on July 26, 2009, 01:13:04 PM
Lookin at a 2004-2005 caddy cts-v. Black on black of course.  Want to build the engine up to the 550-570 range and a few tasteful mods. I can pick a nice one up for about 20k right now.

450+ and you're asking for trouble unless you plan on spending as much as you're paying to buy the car.  Things will start failing.

Do you guys even know about the engine in this thing? The LS6 is bullet proof shits not going to fail. i plan to put in cam headers full cat back chip and eventually SC. Not sure of the order of these mods. Any car experts care to weigh in?

LS6 is a sledgehammer but I read in multiple magazine test drives thàt this car was a bitch to launch with a lot of driveline harshness and wheel hop - adding extra HP may only exacerbate prob.

The motor is bulletproof though and will take whatever you throw at it.

It's not the engine numnuts.. it's the chassis twisting, the drive train failure, and the rear axle flying to pieces.  Not to mention your bottom end isn't made for a supercharger.  That's an all aluminum motor on top of it so internally it's at risk to blow, warp, or crack with enough boost to pull over 450.

headers and cat-back
cam
chip (get it PROFESSIONALLY dyno tuned)
then maybe a supercharger (tune it again)

Chips are a real dumb mod if not installed by a professional.  Combine that with a SC and then you have a recipe for failure if not done right.

Sounds as if you need to just get the engine and put in a more stable car

My cousin has this car and she's had a lot of problems with it.  Tranny, clutch, brakes, Some leaks on the interior.  One time it just died and wouldn't start up.  Major gas hog too.  Maybe she's an isolated incident.
