Title: For those of you NOT into cars/bikes
Post by: Brixtonbulldog on July 27, 2009, 07:32:48 PM
Do you feel silly driving an Accent or a itsy-bitsy Metro all over the place?  Btw, what happened to the rest of your car?  ;D

Do you feel good driving a Prius getting 50 mpg in the most awful looking, homotastic (and by far ugliest) car of all time?  Impressive (gag).

Do you feel cool in some POS Scion or other box/crossover "new age" fairy mobile?

Do you feel mature and "family oriented" in your minivan/toyotamatrix/pontiacvibe while you shake your fist and yell at the vette that just went by you at 135mph?

Do you cry every time you walk out to your 85 Lebaron (with more bumper stickers than an overweight, socialist "liberal arts" professor) because you just can't do any better than that?

Seriously people.. just like gaining weight, wearing awful clothes, having no taste or class your car should be a reflection of your personality (unless you're a complete pussy).  And no, it doesn't have to be some eighty thousand dollar Mercedes or $150k sports car.  But it SHOULD be sharp, clean, practical in at least some way, and have something to offer.  A measly $15k can get you decent power, nice lines, good condition, and a stylish, acceptable ride.  C'mon people.. you're not 16 anymore.  Let's bring it up a notch!!!

-And don't give me this "A to B" nonsense.  A bi-segway-scooter-cycle could get you from A to B.  So fucking what. ;D

i think my car reflects my budget instead of my personality, same with clothes and other accessories. Instead of taking the lazy route of "knowing" someone by pointing to something they own and saying "well since they have A, they must be this type of person", take the time to know them as a person.

 ;D

Do you give a crap about your house/clothes/appearance/girlfriend/boyfriend/dog/job???  Why is a car any different?

Always have some pride in what's yours.

You can do that.

OR...

When I judge people by the car they pull up in and POOF their personality is just as "frumpy."  Strange but true.  People are like open books.

If your meltdown is referring to the thread where a lot of us laugh at idiots like candidizzle throwing $30k into a $18k car, or putting down "mods", you're missing the point.  No one is suggesting driving a geo metro or ford focus around, just laughing at the idiots "into cars".  The wife and I drive very nice high-end vehicles, but you wouldn't catch me looking to "pimp them out".  ::)

I admit defeat.

Not a fan of the 550i but love the SL.

And the original point was NOT to buy a POS and dump or mod $20k into it.  It was to appreciate nice cars to begin with.

Civic + $20,000 in mods = still piece of shit.

I'll admit bikes can be far more impressive than cars in some ways.

My problem is going over 80 on my 650R and getting nervous but 140 in my Mach?  No problem.

my N/A Honda overheated on me at the track a few days ago... i haven't even looked at it to see whats wrong yet, but since its a Honda its probably nothing, their bikes are usually bullet proof and therefor perfect for me since i tend to be a little hard on them.

I drive a 550i.  Also have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, and wife has a SL550.  What do you drive that's so much better?   ::)

550i, about to be replaced, the 2010 5 series is hot, don't know about the 5 series GT. The SL550 (if this is the current one) nose is ugly (regarded many to be), you don't try putting a CLS nose on the SL, the dual oval headlamps were classic.

But overall I say you have good taste. I'd take the SL550 over the 550i, due to the fact that the BMW lacks a Limited Slip Differential, only the M-series cars get those.

Bench, what do you think about them starting to add ABS and traction control on the bikes, particularlly the liter bikes, Some of Ducatis models has traction control that retards spark, I think that is on the 1098S, but the Demo's is diff, I forgot wht the 1198 has. Honda's ABS system I believe adds 20+ pounds to the bike. Is it worth it?

And what do you think of the BMW S1000RR, their new liter sportbike?

I drive an early 2000's Camry.   Cars only depreciate in value, and are used for getting you from point A to point B.  I am all for people who are into cars, and take pride in them, thats fine. But stating that its stupid to drive an eco friendly, fuel efficient vehicle just because it ain't stylish... well, thats a sure sign of a moron. Another sure sign of a moron is superficiality.  People who put great worth in clothes, cars, etc... are usually really unintelligent.  They don't know how to find pleasure in greater intellectual activities like literature, art, music, philosophy etc, so they look for concrete things like "which car is faster?"  Another sure sign of stupidity is judging people by the cars they drive.  I could go on and on with this, but really... cars? pieces of metal that move? who cares?

Before cars, men cared more for their horses, which were transportation from A to B, but they wanted the fastest, the prettiest, the hardiest. So they bred them to be that way. Along the same lines, dogs as well. When carriages were invented, they then cared about those and the complexity of them.

I have met people who have tons of cars, but know very little about them, and because of this they don't share the  euphoria nor the camradrie that "car guys" have. I too like literature, art, music, philosophy, but I appreciate the science and engineering it takes to produce a Ferrari of any vintage, or a Shelby Cobra. I appreciate the lines of a Lamboghini Muira and how that car put Lambo on the map of exotic cars.

Do you give a crap about your house/clothes/appearance/girlfriend/boyfriend/dog/job???  Why is a car any different?

Always have some pride in what's yours.

people do but they make choices, some spend it on the house, afte rall, most of us spend much more time in house then in their car. some spend it on clothes and clothing accessories, arguably you spend more time in clothes than in a house or car. Not everyone has the budget to buy what they exactly want.

Others see a car as something purely functional, and they couldn't care less what it looks like.
What you think is a nice car may be unattractive to others, be aware of your biases and point of view.

And lastly, a car is nota reflection of a person, if that was the case psychology would need a new field of research: inferencing personality characteristics via the car someone drives, we'd run into issues with multiple cars...MPS?

you're black, so the only cobra you appreciate is King Cobra. ;D

seriously, you can only safely drive the speed limit, who gives a fuck about performance?  unintelligent people who want to drive fast and recklessly. any car can go 80mph.  why does it have to be pretty?

You wanna drive a Volvo 740  ;D? I don't know if you remember the old Volvo commercials, where they had a box with wheels running around--because that's what they used to call Volvo's, boxes with wheels. I used to think like you as well. And too an extent I stll do, but my dad and all my uncles are "car guys". One of my uncles dove a 1966 Pontiac Catalina from 1966 to 2005, as his daily driver. I guess you can say performance is there when you need it, or want it. Like who really needs a beautiful woman? Or a better quality wine or Cello? Products will always evolve and have steps in qaulity, performance due to the want of the customer.

The problem with our speed limits is that most cars can easily exceed 55 in a short amount of time. One time the dealership gave me a Lexus RX350 while my car was being serviced, I was doing 70 and I didn't even know it! Our speed limits are antiquated, and our driving habits force us to be very terrible drivers...cupholders are demands made by American drivers

i was watching some show on the autobahn and they were making fun of the cupholders in america.  they were saying "when you drive 100 mph how do you have the time for coffee?"

So fucking what. ;D

you must have a two inch pecker

Quite the opposite.

If I had a small penis I'd be in one of these guys:

And what do you think of the BMW S1000RR, their new liter sportbike?

i think it is worth it, to many people are dying because they dont know what the fuck they are doing. so i think it will save a few lives. plus it only cost $200 more on the honda.

Nice car.

I think a lot of Lexus owners are pretty egocentric but at least they have good taste.  Seems like a status thing.

Lexus are good. Got a bit of an old man stigma attatched to them though. Near silent engines and pretty average steering/dynamics. Good cruisers though. My 85 year old grandfather just got another lexus and got the IS-F because he wanted one which was "a bit louder and sportier".  ;D

That you are really a woman inside...For real, I see more woman drive the IS250 than men, the men get the Is350 or IS-F, and I have seen several women in the IS-F, but not the new M3.

Lucky old man, and it's not just louder and sportier, Lexus is coming out with  the Hardtop convert version and a coupe version as well. The next Gen GS will have a GS-F version featuring the LF-A's V10 (so the rumor is)
