Is this picture staged or is Crowley not the racist rougue cop he has been made out to be?

Regardless of whether or not he is racist, the whole shit was terrible and staged.

The problem is that someone can be arrested in their own home for saying a few words that a cop does not like.

totally agree i think both parties gates and crowely were somewhat forced to go to this I mean imagine the backlash of shit either one would have gotten if they had said no thanks to this meeting...fuking joke this meeting was, obama is a dog and pony show

Who said that the cop barged in randomly?
That makes it even worse, the fact that the cop KNEW already that he was the owner of the house and then arrested him because he didn`t like the words the Professor used on his own property.

TA - I cant wait till you get a real job and have to deal with the real world. You are in for such a rude awkening you have no idea.
You have lived an easy sheltered life and have no idea how things really work.
What should be and what are are often two very different things in the real world.

Did Crowley make up the part about being told it was 2 black men with backpacks?

Define the real world please.

Define the real world please.
Real world like having to go to work in a real job and be accountable for results. Showing up for a few hours at a college with hack professors doing "research" does not quite cut it.
Real world in like having a mortgage, bills, responsibilities, and being accountable to people, clients, bosses, patients, etc.
Real world in like being responsible for meeting a payroll every two weeks and being responsible for people.
You have never done these and have no clue what most people have to go through on a day to day basis to make things work.
And neither does this jerkoff Gates. By the way, its not even his house, the school owns it. Its more like glorified public housing.

I don`t have any bills other than Internet, Electricity and water. I own all of my cars and house. I don`t believe in debt whatsoever. I always pay in full and I do not own a credit card. I thought you would agree with this kind of lifestyle? Is this not what is most desired, yet few accomplish?

His comments aren't naive. In fact, he's completely right.
There's a pretty good article on the Time website about how disorderly conduct charges tend to be a lot of bullshit.
http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1912777,00.html
Apparently, the burden of guilt in these cases lies not in the suspects behaviour, but in whether or not they draw a crowd.

Bullshit TA. Many of us had to work for YEARS busting our ass just to save a few dollars and have a far better appreciation and knowledge of what it takes to make it than if you are just handed it.
-

physically yes, mentally no...

What should be and what are are often two very different things in the real world.
Isn't that precisely the point?! In a FREE country purported to have a Constitution with a 1st & 4th amendment, a man should NOT be arrested in his own home for failing to show fawning deference to a police officer. But that's not what we have is it? You find it incredible that someone would take issue with this?
-
And neither does this jerkoff Gates. By the way, its not even his house, the school owns it. Its more like glorified public housing.
I haven't heard this anywhere else, so I don't even know if that's true, but if he works for the university and receives living accomodations as a part of his salary, that does not qualify as public housing by any stretch. Harvard isn't even a public university.
-
Let me give you a hypothetical for a moment. If your family had a 6000 square foot house that has been family owned for over 150 years, and you were next in line to ownership. Would you just say, "Nah, I don`t want it. I would rather live somewhere crappy and that is not paid for so that I have to stress my self out for no reason other than I may be sadomasochistic."
If more families gave to their children and passed things down and paid for them, we would certainly not have such massive debt. This type of living is truly a Conservative lifestyle (economic wise) and yet, you Conservatives don`t believe in it whatsoever.
Its hilarious.

I disagree. If something has been in your family for well over a hundred years, you tend to have an intense appreciation for it.

Where I'm from, you do this, you get your head cracked in. You dont challenge cops in public in front of other cops. Maybe its not right, but its the way things are.
Gates alone caused this with his stupid racist rantings towards a cop who was there to protect his property.
BTW - whether you agree with or disagree with DC arrests, they are constitutional.

Don;t forget TA this is a so called conservative who obviously doesn't believe in the constitution as applied to black males. Reverse colours on the two and he would be going on all about the constitutional rights of a home owner.

Most are about as constitutional as the Patriot Act wire taps. Go figure...

Glorified public housing? You'll go to just about any lengths won't you? Is that what you consider Obama's residence to be, ...glorified public housing? In any event, he is the lawful tenant who pays rent on the property. That particular house may be owned by the University, though I'm sure he owns his beach house on Martha's Vineyard.

TA - I really fell bad for you. Seriously, you have the mentality of a child.

you have no clue what it took, or what it takes to accumulate the things you enjoy the benefit of and are not even remotely capable to achieving the same on your own.

If Gates felt his rights were violated, he should sue the PD and let the court decide whether the arrest was constitutional. .

No. They we are originally from New York and owned one of the first movie theatres there in the late 1800s and early 1900s. My Grandfather then built upon his father in the Furniture business, owning Universal Furniture which was the World`s Largest Manufacturer of Television and Record Cabinets, starting his operation in the Furniture Capitol of the World which was and still is in North Carolina. This was during the 50s and 60s and he was also one of the first employers to give African Americans equal wages as whites.
My father was born in Brooklyn and my Grandmother lived in the Empire State Building.

its not that its not believed in its simply that you come on here with your arrogant attitude when a good chunk of shit in your life has been handed to you. You would think that would humble a person as opposed to give them a sense of self worth such as it seems to with you...

Apparently, the burden of guilt in these cases lies not in the suspects behaviour, but in whether or not they draw a crowd.
This is a ridiculous barometre to use. They claim at least 7 people were looking on. WE know at one of them was Lucia Whalen, ...so that leaves 6 others. As if numerous police cars from 2 different police departments (Cambridge PD & Harvard University Campus Police) along with a small army of cops all focussed on the little yellow house in Harvard Square, at 12:45pm in the afternoon, ...as if that in itself would not cause a crowd of onlookers to gather. I'm surprised there weren't even MORE people looking on.

There still are Penthouses and lofts there that people live in.

If you had your way, you would have even have been able to get this since most socialists believe in a massive estate tax. So instead of cursing this country like you always do, you should be grateful that we have no t adopted the socialist policies which would have made you present cushy life impossible.

Alot of buildings are like that. A girlfriend of mine has a place at The Four Season's in Toronto. At one point, I had a place in the Sutton Place Hotel. I think most people would be surprised to know how many buildings not normally considered "residential", quietly are.

Socialists believe in a National Sales Tax (Sensible Republicans support this as well). I have never heard of a Socialist advocating an Estate Tax.
My grandfather on my mother`s side was nearly locked up by Hitler`s goons for being a Socialist and owning books by Rosa Luxembourg.

You know what sucks Jag????
The Empite State Building was built in something like a year and has withstood almost everything. Great solid construction.
9 miles down the road from me, and 8 years later, is a huge freaking hole in the ground where the WTC stood that still is caught up in litigation b.s.

TA - we have been over this many times, a national sales tax alone will never happen. The govt will never relinquish control over people like they can do with the income tax.
i agree with you that a flat national sales tax is the way to go, but it will never happen.

That above all else has a bigger impact on his ability to have an appreciation for a dollar.

You Socialist! Wanting everyone to pay the EXACT same for tax!
A sales tax is based on how much you consumer. If you consume more, you pay more. It allows you to have a choice how much you pay, which I agree with from a freedom poiint of view. However, the politicians will never allow you that choice and spend too much. There is no way this can work, sadly. We have structural spwending and debt obligations that never can be taken care of with a sales tax. Its sad, but its the reality of the matter.
It also promotes savings which I agree with as well. The current tax structure encourages wasteful consumption by businesses looking for writeoffs.

You are the first supposed socialist that I have ever heard of wanting a flat tax.
Every socialist state relies on progressive tax rates.
http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=6297
In 1848 Marx and Engels proposed that progressive taxation be used "to wrest, by degrees, all capital from the bourgeois, to centralize all instruments of production in the hands of the state." Although communism has failed, the idea of progressive taxation, as a means of achieving "social justice," remains ingrained in the modern liberal psyche.

Has nothing to with socialism, I 'm talking from what actually occurs with the tax code, espcecially an income tax v sales tax. The income tax is also a huge burden to the economy since people and companies have to spend billions just to hire accountants to deal with this mess. Shit, the IRS cant even figure out the tax code.
The income tax discourages savings and promotes corruption like we have. It is the cause of a ton of lobbying efforts, graft, etc. and the politicians are able to be bought off very easily with tinkering with the tax code.
A flat sales tax is the fairest, and is the most honest since the pacs, lobbyists, spcial interests, etc, will not be able to rig the tax code to create special exceptions, loop holes, etc.

Socialist Sales Tax May Be Coming to America
By Matthew Vadum on 5.27.09 @ 8:30PM
The Washington Post reports that a national sales tax, embraced by some because it would prop up the faltering social welfare state, is gaining fans in Congress.
We'll see how far lawmakers like Senate Budget Committee chairman Kent Conrad (D-North Dakota) who think such a tax would be a good thing for America get with the proposal.
"There is a growing awareness of the need for fundamental tax reform," Conrad said. "I think a VAT and a high-end income tax have got to be on the table."
The paper describes a VAT, or value-added tax, as "a tax on the transfer of goods and services that ultimately is borne by the consumer. Highly visible, it would increase the cost of just about everything, from a carton of eggs to a visit with a lawyer. It is also hugely regressive, falling heavily on the poor."
I suspect such a tax, depending on how it is administered, might actually provoke civil unrest in America because consumers would quickly tire of shelling out extra for everything or virtually everything they purchase. The beauty of income taxes, from the statist point of view, is that they are generally withheld at the source, and so income earners don't feel the same kind of pain at the loss of money they never had in the first place.
Europeans and Canadians may put up with this burdensome tax scheme but my guess is Americans would not.
Meanwhile, Phil Kerpen of Americans for Prosperity has a good summary of the ramifications of bringing a national sales tax to the U.S.

TA - THIS IS AN ADDITION TO THE INCOME TAX
The "addition" or "National Sales Tax" is what some in your party refer to as a Socialist Tax.
National Sales Taxes are Socialist and you recognize that they are the best form of taxation so I don`t see the argument. The current Socialistic nations have a National Sales Tax without an income tax.

I would be 100% favor of this tax only if they repealed the 17th Amendmenent to the Constitution. I think that is the one re: the income tax.
Without repealing the income tax, I am not in favor of this since they can always increase both.

Here is the other problem TA, The govt will not know how much money people are making with a straight sales tax. Do you think they will relinquish that type of control?
Additionally, the politicians are addcited to spending and can force you to pay up more with an income tax. With a sales tax, they cant force you to spend more.
-
TA - THIS IS AN ADDITION TO THE INCOME TAX
Of course it is because the poor won't pay.
We have a national sales tax in Canada and everyone who makes under 35,000 gets money from the government.
The Carbon Tax would work the same way.
Adonis - All taxes are viewed as socialist. By conservatives because they redistribute wealth.
Progressive Income taxes is a large party of Socialism.
By the way Marx was a Communist. :) Socialism is not Communism.
Marx lead to Marxism not communism.
Marxism is the backbone of both Communism and Socialism.

I agree. Income Tax should be repealed Federally and only used in times of war if needed as was the original intent of Lincoln`s Secretary of the Treasury, Salmon P. Chase.

Do you support solely a National Sales tax as 333366 and I do?
Hell no,
I am firm believer in progressive income taxes mixed with a national sales tax.
Even though I am in the higher tax brackets.
For me I think of the sales tax as the ultimate Carbon Tax because it limits the production and use of energy.
I don't believe in using a separate carbon tax because then the disadvantaged wind up footing most of the bill, because they can't afford to fix up their house, moved to a better building or replace their transportation.

My beef with income taxes is that there are crafty ways they can screw with you even if the rates dont change.
With a sales tax, it is what it is.
The real culprit however, is govt spending gone insane. The insane level of govt spending on all levels makes all levels of taxation extremely burdensome right now.
Whether it is a low income tax or low sales tax, who cares? However, the rates we have now on federal and state levels is becoming almost to the point of confiscatory.

One of the things I don't like though is the way that riders are placed on bills so that do your own income tax becomes impossible.
There are many loop holes on the long form that most people are not aware of and this makes income tax unfair.
You are right the level of spending is unsustainable and it needs to be reviewed.
Too many lobbyists in the US as well, the causes many programs to either bloat up or exponentially increase the cost of programs.
For example, why do drug companies that use taxpayer money or charitable get to keep the patent on these drugs.
This is one of the main reasons drugs are getting so expensive and should be fixed.

You'd be surprised how well a federal consumer tax works. How do you think Canada paid off our debt, and turned our deficits into surpluses. You'd be surprised how far a 7% tax on all goods & services go. Heaven help the federal leader who brings it in though, ...there's no way he gets re-elected to anything ever again.
