Title: rude people at gym
Post by: Cy Tolliver on August 03, 2009, 06:46:59 AM
WTF?  i'm cool with 99 percent of people at my gym, but some people are just rude.  you give them a tip on their bad form or something and they act like it offends them that your trying to help.

do you guys ever encounter people like this?

If people want tips on their form they will usually ask.

We used to have a trainer who constantly tried to "correct" just about everyone's form in the gym.  He may have just been trying to be helpful but he was seen as pretty annoying.

why do you feel the need to interrupt someone's workout?  why is it your dooty to fix someone that you obviously don't know?

i hate those people who consequently has to correct people in the gym. but its also the way you say it. maybe people will appreciate more if you say, i do it this way so maybe you can get more out of the excersize that way.
i never correct people anyway, i could care less

If you look like someone that knows what they are talking about then maybe.  but when I see little twinks or 90 eyar old flabby men trying to give advice it makes me annoyed.  But then there are some true bodybuilders that I chat with and I try to listen to a lot of their training tips.

I never correct people on their form - I just get on with my workout and bollocks to anyone else in there - if someone asks for help I will always be happy to do so but for me to go out of my way and approach anyone is pretty much unheard of.

I'm also rude in the gym most of the time, not because I'm a bad person but I'm just very focused on my workout and hate being interrupted.

Worst people are the ones who start talking to you in the middle of a set, asking how many sets you got left at that machine, or pass you by at a distance of one inch while you're doing a heavy set to rerack some dumbbells or stuff like that. At these moments I'm short of becoming a murderer.

I had a 100 pound twink ask me mid set while I was benching how many sets I had left.  That was the closest I ever came to punching the fuck out of someone at the gym.  When I was done, I racked the weights and just yelled at the fuck.  He ran to the gym manager but once I told the manager what happened he shook his head went and talked to the guy and two minutes later the kid was leaving the gym.

If someone asks to work in with you, how many of you say no?

Personally, i don't care too much.  It can be annoying at times, but most people don't work out on a regular basis and really don't have a clue about gym etiquette.

Yes, it takes will to yell at little millionaire twinks in the gym.  You should try it one day.

The only rude people I have a problem with are those who ignore my obvious efforts to be as non social as I can be in the gym while lifting.

Me- hooded pullover, listening to my tunes, not making eye contact with anybody, head down walking to next set after I rack my weights, big a$$ towel in my left to wipe off whatever....doing my work, non bad a$$, no mean mug, nice guy...just want to get in and get out.

then some rude person taps me on the shoulder ...i have to take off my hood...take my ear phones out....only to hear "Man......whenever I see you here....you just work out and leave!"

....I no longer go to Bally's..end of story. RANT OFF

Like people have said, don't offer advice unless asked for. It rarely comes off well.

I had a trainer do that to me during a heavy set of box squats.  He wanted to let me know that I was compressing my spine and hurting back and that instead I should do the squats on one of those rubber balls.

Its assholes like you who are annoying. If your truly a big guy, and someone needs help/tip, trust me they would come and ask. If your a big guy and go around trying to help people, you'll just look like an asshole loser ( the reason that your being treated in a rude manner is becuase your coming off like an asshole, thats why they treat u the same way).

hope this help

Tend to your own workouts and leave people alone! I can think of few things more annoying then being offered "workout tips" from Jr when I didn't ask for any >:(
Get a cert and become a trainer if dispensing training information is so important to you ....

lol!... i picture this fella about 5'9 240lb american whores dream

Oh and about the op, mind your own business at the gym dude. You don't roll down your window at an intersection and give someone driving tips do you? Or in the grocery store you don't look in other people's carts and say "hey, those donuts aren't good for you"... stfu and do your own training. It's taken more rudely if you're trying to give advice than for someone to say they don't want it.
