Title: This is M-1 Global
Post by: LMV on August 03, 2009, 04:58:17 PM

I'm speechless, so much class, so much talent, the beginning of a new era in MMA

I can only assume that M-1 just doesn't bring enough to the table for the UFC to even think about merging...

that's not to say that over time it won't happen or wouldn't be good...

it's just for now, they're like the broke guy with a good idea that needs financial backing from a guy who's financially secure...

Hate to say it, but most likely this will be the last go for both strikeforce and m-1.
Let's be honest here. If I were a betting man I would definitely say they will both be gone
in a year or two.

I hope not, competition is always good.  M-1 can remain a viable regional promotional event, but making in roads into the US PPV market without Zuffa will be tough.  Coker is smart, hopefully he did his due dilligence.

Another mistake M-1 made was not coming in as a sponsor like the UFC was going to allow.
Look how big Affliction got in the beginning advertising in the UFC.
M-1 even as 10 year old org. The UFC advertising would surely help them out.

Affliction had the clothing line going way before it got into MMA sponsoring. All the MMA guys were wearing there clothes & a bulb went off in the Affl. owners head.

M-1 will never see that kind of $$$$ unless they come up with some cool, orginal shit....  ::)

Exactly my point. It did not blow up until it got into the UFC. Affliction then got greedy and threw it all away.

Right i just disagree that M-1 has any type of style that Affliction did to take them to the next level.

Though M-1 uniting with Dream is a good move for MMA & could be bad for UFC.

In Japan, MMA is on free TV.  NO PPV revenues.  UFC is DOMINATING PPV.  M-1 should have done the deal, but on a short term basis, then once Fedor cleaned out the HW division, THEN go on your own.  That way he would be established in the minds of the NOOB American audience who buy PPVs.
