Just to stir the pot a bit, tell me what you think about this theory.

We're not in a recession/depression per se, but the margins on the stocks over a 15 year period are just relatively big.

Thoughts?

My theory is that in 2 years, we'll be right where we are, with US position in the currency machine maybe 20% less than it is now.

Bush (followed orders and) borrowed like a drunk sailor.  Obama spent like a drunk sailor to keep it from collapsing.  We'll pay the cost in the long term.  But it won't be sky is falling.  It will be everything at the grocery store costing 25% more, probably forever.

it's gonna recover, and we'll come back weaker than we were before.  And, in 5 or 10 or 5 years, some US firm will discover nanotech or the next microsoft or something else the world sees as a killer app, and we'll take some ground back.

besides, we have 800 bases.  We have a gun to the head of every country in the world.  You dump the buck, and starve 300 mil americans, you watch how fast those bases get the greenlight to start some fireworks.

it is what it is.  DOW is recovering, UE is shrinking (a little).  I thought the thread title would be amusing to those who would be blaming Obama NONSTOP if DOW was 4000 right now.

While your all cheering for the DOW.

How about any comments on the fact the American dollar has lost 10% of its value and climbing.

The Fed has painted itself in a corner. They can't get out of this mess without one or the other taking a big hit.

So do you expect high single/low double digit inflation soon?  If so, what are you doing personally(in your investments) to combat that?

Not sure abt anyone else but long term investments are now 50% Gold (risky, I know), some US companies that have a high %age of overseas sales, agriculture & energy - some other stuff but small percentages of the overall portfolio.
