This is amusing! Several of you--without any prompting--have identified that Lebrada cover as gay, but when it was first posted here about a year ago, and I suggested it was gay several guys here went balistic insisting that there was absolutely nothing gay about it and I only perceived it as gay because I had cock on the brain. I guess some guys are just slow to see the obvious. ::)

let me just say, that i was not here that long ago.......and that i think me, and that other guy were just being facetious regarding the 80's porn stache' he is sporting........do not take it to seriously. pretty much everything in bodybuilding is gay to one extent or another, since its inception the sport has been controlled by a rigid faction of wealthy jewish homosexual businessmen............. .but like many other things in life, everything is in the eye of the beholder.
while you may look at a cover and see a scantily clad, slutty looking muscleman giving you a come-hither glance............an 18 year old aspiring bodybuilder might see an archetype of masculinity who probably gets tons and tons of pussy............now a guy like me, who has grown up around the sport........knows that these two things are not mutually exclusive, and with most bodybuilders...........b oth are working in tandem in the same individual.
-
now..........the correct answer to which cover is "gayer" is not even debatable..............t hat shot of jay cutler standing there holding a tattered cloth over his mid-section is meant to drum up the feeling of him serving as a young gladiator-fuck-slave, who was thrown a dirty sheet and told to cover himself up and wipe himself off, once a throng of wealthy old drunken aristocrats worshiped his physicality, and basically had their was with him as a group for hours on end.
a quintessential schmoe fantasy.....

I'm hurt that not only didn't you know that my website contains over 3000 mag covers, but that you then go and post scans from my website. its safe to say that pretty much any scan of a physique mag you find on the internet that has as its filename 2 or 3 letters followed by 3-4 digits (for vol and num, or year and month, or just num), such as fl0510.jpg, im5409.jpg, mti0102.jpg, or mmi204.jpg, I scanned.

I knew nothing of your scans. The covers I posted where taken from old threads on getbig. If you say they originated with you, I believe you... that's quite a hobby you have there!

I doubt it. Tim gets the real thing; he doesn't need to settle for glossy magazines. In any case, the purveyor of muscle mags is no more of a schmoe than those whom consume them: Topskin69, Hulkster, IceCold, getbig105, donrhummy, etc. ;)

How did I get added to the Schome list? ??? This is the first time I have been accused of that! ;D

why don,t you scan the articles?

why don,t you scan the articles?
I've entered hundreds of articles, some using an OCR, some typed in by hand. (the old Weider mags are on newsprint and don't scan well. vintage S&H and Ironman can be done with an OCR. new mags, with their color backgrounds don't scan well at all.)
for example, see http://musclememory.com/show.php?o=Olympia+-+IFBB and http://musclememory.com/show.php?o=Mr+America+-+AAU

Ideally, each publication would have archives of its magazines available online as PDFs (even limiting it to subscribers or pay for access would be ok) or some BB federation would offer PDF archives of old/defunct magazines. That this hasn’t happened uderscores how disorganized this sport is.
Tim, you’ve done a big service to BB fans schmoes everywhere! But will musclememory.com continue if you fall of a cliff or get crushed in a bearhug with a pro bodybuilder? ???

none of the existing mags have their original owners, and when they bought the mags, they generally didn't buy the rights to the back issues. In addition, copyright law regarding magazines changed in 1975. Prior to that, mags were in the public domain the day they hit the newsstand. (In the 1940s Weider was notorious for reprinting articles from European mags in Your Physique and Muscle Power, without compensation to the original mag or author.) For mags after 1975, someone still owns the copyright, but figuring out who is pretty much impossible.
Tim, you’ve done a big service to BB fans schmoes everywhere!
Thanks. I've had so many more plans for musclememory, such as finishing the searchable database of magazine table of contents (http://musclememory.com/toc/) (only have gotten up to the mid 1970s) but both time and money is in short supply.
But will musclememory.com continue if you fall of a cliff or get crushed in bearhug with a pro bodybuilder? ???
I've designated who gets what, but what they'll do with it is up to them.
BTW, IFBB pro bodybuilders are so last millennium. Now its UFC pros.

I would think color backgrounds would scan well. I scanned old 35mm photos on a cheap scanner, and they look good. ???

OCR, optical character recognition, using a comptuer to automatically converting a scan into characters, sentences, paragraphs, etc., that you can then edit or search.
old magazines: black characters on a white background, easy for an OCR to convert (if its on high quality paper, yellowed newsprint, not so easy)
new mags: mix of black and white characters on various colored backgrounds, doesn't covert well at all
