WEIBK, if only ABBF countries enter this world championship it will not be truly a world championship
It is good they are having prize money, step forward indeed!

Who said that only Asian Countries will enter the World Championships? There are competitions all over Asia that offer prize money and the athletes are not considered Pro. I don't know why this would be any different.

Do you have any additional details on the expulsion of the 8 countries and the resignation of the other 33? Any articles or documentation?
Thanks,
Pat

I think he has a typo there. the 8 countries that participated in the recent IFBB Asian Championships in India were expelled from the ABBF (big deal) and the 33 that stuck with the ABBF resigned from the IFBB.

Oh yeah New Zealand and Austria ::)
how many non Asian countries are members of the ABBF? this ''world'' championship will be full of Asian countries, about 33 of them ::)

I may have missed it because this is all new but did the new organization say they were only open to ABBF affiliated countries?

No,but ABBF has no member countries outside Asia, Americans and Europeans are likely to get banned by their national fed(IFBB) if they enter this contest then they will not be able to compete in their national contests!
-

and ABBF has banned members who entered Musclemania contests in the past, so it would be hypocritical for them to start inviting members of other orgs now.

haha u bad

so I went to the wbpsf website and downloaded their membership affiliation application form. They want you to include:
iv) Documented proof of acceptance by our country's Sports Ministry, National Olympic Committee, and/or proof of registration as a sports federation for bodybuilding and physique sports in our country.
For most of the western world, the first two don't apply. Our governments don't officially recognize sports organizations, nor do our Olympic committee recognize bodybuilding. Not sure about the third. We can register as a for-profit or non-profit corporation. But sports federation has no legal meaning here.
If I register wbpsfusa.com would that qualify? (wbpsf.com was registered in June by Dean Teiho in New Zealand)
btw, isn't the name a bit superfluously redundant? World Bodybuilding And Physique Sports Federation? Isn't bodybuilding the same as physique ?
-
Thanks. We needed a new acronym.

Yes Tim they are setting membership standards by Asian criteria thus difficult for non Asian national feds to join, just change the name to Asian world championships, it would be more appropriate.

but if there is prize money, then they're not amateurs
that is only applied in the US ... alot of other countries pay their athelte & give prize money to amateurs
-

its really not the US. lots of people in the NPC compete as pros in other orgs, then go back to the NPC. but the IFBB does use the concept of amateur vs pro against athletes when it suits their need. the Canadian IFBB recently DQed a bunch of athletes, claiming they were no longer amateurs because they competed in WNSO events.
but also, there is a difference between a government supporting their athletes vs athletes winning prize money from the contest
-
Does anyone really give a shit about this Chua vs Santonja spat? It doesn't effect IFBB pro men in thongs, the NPC, or the "industry" one bit.

totally agree ... yet there are a lot if shows held in the Gulf countries with prize money ... which only accommodates amateurs

I'm sure just because they use the term Ministry (used in many Asian Countries) this does not specifically disqualify all other nations that don't fall under that form of government. The point is they are attempting to restrict membership to legitimate organizations and not just any old fly by night group of clowns trying to make a buck. I think this is a good thing. As far as the name is concerned, the reason why they use bodybuilding and physique sports is because this organization (like the Asian Champ. currently being held in Thailand) has more than just bodybuilding competitions. They have body classic and fitness divisions also. I don't think those type of events will be held at their World Championships but they will probably have events like that in the future. I'm sure this is why you have words bodybuilding and physique in the name.

no, I'm not talking about the word Ministry. I'm talking about official government recognition. There are many amateur sports organizations in the US. None are officially recognized by the US government. None are seen illegitimate or illegal. Same can be said for most countries in the Americas, Europe, even Australia and New Zealand.
The only thing required to be legitimate is to register as a corporation. And they're all trying to make a buck.
So who are you going to recognize? NABBA, Musclemania, WABBA, INBF, NAC, INBA, IBFA, NGA, UNBA. All are equally legitimate in the eyes of our governments.

Yeah, I understand what you are saying. What I would think that if the organization is a registered entity in the country then I would say it is recognized by that government. I've heard that the IFBB is not actually a registered Federation but a registered company. I guess it's going to be interesting to see just how the new organization interprets this issue. Would be great to see athletes from the organizations that you listed be able to compete. Opening it up to a wider range of athletes may help to ensure a top quality line up.
Maybe they are referring to the team having to represent the country of origin thus being recognized by that country. Doesn't the US send athletes to the World Championships on occasion. I'm sure they represent the US and as such must be recognized by some sort of federation or governing body. Anyway, interesting question. Can't wait to see how it all plays out.

u guys will never get it.IFBB is here to stay no 3rd rate Asian guy like rat(chua) can bring it down.
Remember 1971 only Arnold competed in Olympia all other guys competed in NABBA.
today IFBB is giant compare to 1971.what make u think that bunch of Asian loosers can bring it down now.

what world championships? The IFBB World Amateur Championships are owned by the IFBB. The World Games is owned by the IWGA, which the IFBB is a member.
No, there is no federation or governing body in the US and most western countries that have any say in who is sent to various international sporting events. it is up to each international sports organization to recognize who is their representative in the US.
for example, in track and field, IAAF recognizes USA Track and Field. But if another international organization wanted to hold track and field events, they could recognize another group in the US. Both US groups would be just a legal, just as legitimate.
Yes, the IFBB was never a federation. Since 1969 it has been a privately held corporation. Prior to that it was just a name used by Ben and Joe. But in reality, the ABBF is also just a privately held corporation, registered in Singapore, owned by Chua. The ABBF may be recognized by various Asian governments now, but it certainly wasn't when it was created in the 70s. Nor were any of the various country organizations. Ben and Joe would visit various countries, find someone local to sell their supplements, and tell them that holding contests is a great way to promote the supplements.
Once again, most western countries don't recognize any one group as the 'official' representative of any sport. Anyone can form their own organization. All orgs are equally legitimate. So who will WBPSF recognize?

The only thing we can do here is throw out a lot of assumptions. Maybe all organizations, being equally legitimate, will be eligible. I guess we won't know that until the process actually starts and the questions are raised and answered. Bottom line, it would be in the best interest of the the organization to have top tier athletes from around the world compete in their "World Championships". Let's hope this is the case, regardless of how they govern the eligibility issue.

There are many wealthy men in the Middle East who are seriously into male (and sometimes female) bodybuilders, but there has never been much evidence to suggest that they were at all interested in bodybuilding events, even for the sake of 'possessing a champion' (like having a desire to be the owner/breeder of a champion racehorse).
Although the names are kept in strictest confidence, many of the world's top bodybuilders and even several fitness/figure girls have been generously compensated for a 'week in the desert' with wealthy Arabs. For obvious reasons, I cannot swear that no sex ever takes place, but I've never heard of anyone who was asked to perform sex acts as a part of the arrangement. In general, the physiquemen and women merely entertain by posing or simply by being in the company of gentlemen who enjoy their presence.
The pay varies, but I've never heard of anyone earning less than $5000 - which is quite a lot of money for a figure girl no one has ever heard of - and it's nothing to earn $10,000-20,000 for the week, PLUS shopping trips in many cases.
They give 'High Schmociety' a whole new meaning.
-
hahahah imagine 'winning' a BB contest in that 'civilized' part of the world...only to have the trophy presentation be held in some palace of schmoe-ness where Shiek Allah Akbar Shcmoe-alla is waiting for the 'final pose down' hahahah

They look like they have some cash to promote with, but impossible to say if this will spread to the USA or Europe. My hunch is this will remain in this geographic region.
The Dubai group looks well organized .

they're just where we were in the 60s and 70s. when adjusted for inflation, the money is probably even the same. what changed here was the gay rights movement. wealthy men no longer need to be quite so discrete, and demand a little more return from their investment. things will eventually change there too.
