Title: Question for any MMA buffs
Post by: George Whorewell on August 23, 2009, 04:40:24 PM
Was Matt Sera or BJ Penn the first American to be BJJ world champ? My friend and I keep arguing back and forth about it. I know Sera won the Abu Dhabi a few years back+ BJ won the Brazilian world championship If im not mistaken.

The mundials are the true world championships and that is what what Bj Penn won.  So to answer your question, Penn was the first american to win the world championships.  I'm sure AmericanBulldog can put in some more info an elaborate a little bit more.

FYI Bj Prick is a proud Hawaiian, he constantly wears t-shirts regarding Hawaiian independence and seperation, he wants no part of Uncle Sam.

BJ is the first American to win the Mundials as a BLACK BELT.  My current coach won the No Gi Worlds as a brown.  His black belt, Kai, is a two time Mundial world champ, but at Purple and Brown.  His brother, Kendall won the Mundials as a blue and purple.  Egan Inoue won as a blue and purple as well.  Of all the Mundial winners from Hawaii, BJ is the only one to do so at Black belt (And any other American).  Hawaii has produced six Mundial champions.

Serra took second in the prestigious ADCC submission championship.  In the process, he beat Takanori Gomi, JJ Machado, Leo Santos.  He lost to Maricio Feitosa in the finals.  (Another Gracie Barra fighter).

Serra is Renzo Gracies first Black Belt, though.

And?  Obviously you have never been there. But that is okay.  It seems to be the norm on Getbig to talk shit about things you have no idea about.

Kau Inoa isn't about secession from the US.  But to establish a Native Hawaiian nation within the US much like a lot of Indian Reservations.  There are a lot of land under state and US control that could be given back to governing bodies for use.

He will be coming here on vacation, I will make shure parts of his trip is recorded, and on youtube.   ;D
