Title: The Afghanistan Question
Post by: garebear on August 24, 2009, 06:35:17 PM
I've been reading about these new polls in the US. Apparently, most people believe that the war in Afghanistan is not worth fighting.

I really don't understand this. What is our alternative, to give Al Qaeda free reign to slaughter us over and over again?

To me, it's pretty much like saying that our own survival, as Americans, is not worth fighting for.

What do you think?

Quick man, check your toilet, there might be some Al Qaeda hiding there waiting to kill you over and over again.

I'm in Kabul now. There are plenty around who want to kill me. We take the hit so you don't have to.

And they're killing us at a pretty good clip.

My apologies man. I didn't know you were there. I thought you were talking from the safety of your home.

Maybe they feel it's not worth fighting for because of the way the whole Iraqi thing turned out and they see this as an extension of that? The money spent, the lives lost, the lies, etc...

Stay safe.

And I thank you for that.  IMO there are a lot of unappreciative people in the country who don't think they have to worry about AQ.

No problem.

I can understand anyone's disagreement with Iraq. I personally don't agree with it. But people from Afg slaughtered us, 3,000 in a day.
I can also understand the arguement that they may not be here now . But if we leave, do you really think they won't just come back?

even osama was a sauidi.  Why didn't we go after them?

don't take the question as an attack on your service.  not meant that way.

I can understand that and I'm not taking it as an attack on my service. To be honest, I'm a liberal in most ways. I only joined the Army because I felt that the lives of my family were in danger.
And I know the nationalities of the hijackers. Al Qaeda still resided and trained here, however. If you review the problem in detail, it is plain to see that Arabs came here to seek refuge because even those governments (Saudi Arabia, etc) expelled them. There was no law here but the Taliban, and they are absolute fanatics, welcoming of Jihadists.
If we leave here, AQ will just be right back. You think the Taliban's gonna kick 'em out?

Sometimes I'm so nervous before leaving the wire that I almost throw up. I have to do this day after day. For the people who enjoy the security of our sacrifices to say that it is 'not worth it' is really unforgivable. If they feel that way, how about a viable solution to follow it up? This problem is not going away.

I'm not sure I believe in an AQ threat to our country.

I'm proud of you my friend, and I have to say keep up the good work!  I'm praying for you!

Make sure your rifle is zeroed in and come home safe!
