There's got to be an awful lot of variables :-\

It makes sense to me. The people who are in shape, leave the house, and hit the gym. They put themselves at high risk every day just by getting off their ASS and actually doing something with themselves. the over weight people spend their time in front of a TV. Hard to die in a car accident, or other unnatural causes when you maintain an inactive lifestyle. Speaking of which its just after midnight, and I am off to the gym.

Remember that this refers to people who are "over weight" by BMI standards. Because of their muscle mass, most athletes are over weight by BMI standards. Also, it is people who are over weight, not those who are obese, that live longer according to this study.
