Arnold still wins. His arms might not be as big as the others, but his form is flawless and his chest is perfect.

why don't modern pros inhale and "pop up" his chest like arnie and katz when they do that pose. It seems more impressive the way arnie and katz did theirs..

Not that Arnold didn't have a great chest, but all of his chest pictures are taken considerably closer to the camera than the comparisons.

Levrone?  Really Steve??

Seems clear to me either Arnold for overall impressiveness, Ronnie for sheer muscularity...  Of course, I choose Ahnuld.
I think Levrone's side chest is the most balanced. Aesthetic but huge too. Arnold? Are you kidding? Where is the triceps? Where is the side delt? Where is the REAR delt???

Whats most amazing about Arnold was how great he looked and muscular back 30 years ago and his body back then is still better than anyone's today.  The guys today might be bigger and more bloated and even more cut but 99% of that is due to the drugs.  Back then there weren't many choices for drugs and equipment was nothing compared to todays and even the diet knowledge was so much less.  Yet the Arnold had a better upper body than anyone to day.  He was awesome

the gyms wouldnt make much difference, you dont need fancy hammer stregth machines to build a top physique, all had access to the best cheap and abundant steroids etc etc........diet, insulin/hgh is all thats realy changed

One arm must be cinched up under the rib cage to be a legit side chest shot.

If your stomach is too bloated to do that, then it ain't a "side-chest" shot, it's simply a shot of the chest from the side.......

LLES:

Levrone mastered both the sidechest and the most muscular-pose!

mastered = knew how to get full potential out of what he had (how to stand, use angles etc.)

(For example: Ronnie didn't "know" how to do it properly but he was so freaky it looked good anyway.)

Not really , just pointing out his obsession with me , I stopped posting in the truce thread , now it follows me .

he's spamming every thread I'm in or has Yates name , as someone mentioned put his ass in timeout and the board would run smoother

case in point I just made a Dennis Wolf thread has nothing to do with Yates or Ronnie , case closed.

I'd say it would be in an AAU or IFBB rulebook at some point where "mandatory poses" were explained.   I'm speaking from the standpoint of what a "side-chest pose" was considered to be for over the 50 years or so of bodybuilding history before the crap that b/bers now injest that makes their stomachs resemble  beached whales.

I'll see if I can find anything on that.

you dont have to keep "pointing out his obsession" every time he says something. That puts you two on equal levels.

Says who?  Is there an official manual as to how one must position himself when doing a "legit" side-chest pose?   ::)

This was already explained to you

3. Side Chest (see Figure 3)
The competitor may choose either side for this pose, in
order to display the “better” arm. He will stand with his
left or right side towards the judges and will bend the arm
nearest the judges to a right-angle position, with the fist
clenched and, with the other hand, will grasp the wrist.
The leg nearest the judges will be bent at the knee and
will rest on the toes. The competitor will then expand the
chest and by upward pressure of the front bent arm and
contract the biceps as much as possible. He will also
contract the thigh muscles, in particular, the biceps
femoris group, and by downward pressure on his toes,
will display the contracted calf muscles.
The judge will pay particular attention to the pectoral
muscles and the arch of the rib cage, the biceps, the leg
biceps and the calves, and will conclude with the head-tofoot
examination. In this pose the judge will be able to
survey the thigh and calf muscles in profile, which will
help in grading their comparative development more
accurately.

The comparisons of the compulsory poses cannot be overemphasized
as these comparisons will help the judge to decide
which competitor has the superior physique from the standpoint of
muscular bulk, balanced development, muscular density and
definition.

Agreed!
The chest is TOO BIG in comparison. He is VERY MUCH out of balance. I believe alot of it is a function of arnold mastering the pose, that causes
his chest to lift up so ridiculously high. Not ANY MORE muscle than some of todays pros (that dont know how to hit
the pose the same as ARnold did).

That is an integral point.  Arnold had flaws, but he was always very calculated in how he posed.  So often, I see bodybuilders doing poses that either do not suite their style of physique, or serve to expose glaring flaws.  Most bodybuilders don't seem cognitive of such aspects in the manner Arnold was.

You mean side most muscular, cause I don't believe I've ever seen him actually hit a side chest.

its easy to see why people say ronnie has the best side chest ever.

striated from head to toe, huge everywhere. thick as hell.

a lot of guys side chest shots (eg. dorian) had no cuts to speak of..

Who says he has the best side chest ever?  ???  ???  ??? Shawn Ray doesn't think so

Ronnie's side chest leaves a lot to be desired when compared to people who can actually hit it right like Dexter and Jay. His side triceps shot is not one of the best in the business and he got exposed because of it.

Well you certainly proved your point by making blanket statements with ZERO explanation what so ever  ;D

Ronnie's side chest SUCKED because ONE he can't even do the pose correctly two his pecs are overshadowed by his delts ( no proportion & balance ) he doesn't pull his arm all the way back while arching his rib-cage his calves ontop of NOT being in proportion with his quads lack ANY development from the sides , side poses are NOT Ronnie's forte his side triceps pose sucks as well

You lose all credibility due to the fact that you refuse to admit and state that Dorian was one of the best ever. You don't have to think he's the best. You can think Ronnie is the best (many will agree) but to say Dorian was a flash in the pan, sucked etc makes you an idiot. Ask ANY Pro or industry expert and I bet not one of them wouldn't say Dorian was one of the greatest ever.  They may not all think he was the best (although several will) but they will all say he was one of the best. This fact makes EVERYTHING you say mean nothing and shows your complete lack of bodybuilding knowledge.

bullshit. dorian is viewed as a flash in the pan by many because he only won 2 olympias without his torn and horrible left arm..4 of his 6 wins had that horrible appendage..

You are so full of it.  Predictable is any time a post is made about any Pro you will be there to post about your mancrush Ronnie.  So if Dorian only really won 2 you honestly think Ronnie deserved all 8??  No one in the bodybuilding world believes Ronnie deserved all his titles.  You also have me thrown in the mix of people that think Dorian is the best ever and I don't think that. BUT I also don't think Ronnie is either.  I just find you to be annoying and you really are the biggest schmoe out there.

Kev said it in a seminar, "you cant beat Dorian Yates, you just cant."

Sounds like Flex when he said Dorian was ' unbeatable '

what did Kevin have to say about Ronnie?

The plain truth is that I beat Ronnie last year [2000] and Jay Cutler beat Ronnie this year. You should not win the Mr. Olympia if your stomach is hanging out -- period. Last year, I patted Ronnie's stomach during the posedown to draw attention to the fact that he was bloated. That tactic obviously didn't work, and Ronnie beat me in the posedown to successfully defend his title for a third straight Mr. O triumph.

So now the show rolls around and Jay Cutler beats Ronnie in both prejudging rounds: symmetry and muscularity. Ronnie was spilling over with too much water during the muscularity round, and Cutler took it to him in many of the poses that Coleman usually dominates.

How can Cutler lose this contest if he wins in both symmetry and muscularity? How can Ronnie retain his title if his midsection is bloated and distended? Why should the fans get behind a champion who can't present an aesthetic image of what bodybuilding is supposed to be all about?

I'm talking about classical proportions, perfect symmetry and ideal conditioning. Based on that ideal, I should have won the Sandow in 2000, and Cutler should have taken it in 2001.

The fans deserve better than what they are getting. I'm already working hard to ensure that, in 2002, a true peoples' champ can strip the title away from Ronnie Coleman.
Title: Re: best side chest ever?
Post by: Genius on August 29, 2009, 07:07:51 PM
In 2002 Kevin nearly beat Ronnie but unfortunately he had an hernia-op that year and outmuscled Ronnie's upperbody - If more time given = maybe better legs and the Sandow should have been Kev's!

If Flex didn't have his kidney-transplant 2002 even he could knock Ronnie out! Ronne was "small" for being Ronnie..

Ronnie 2003 = THE FREAKIEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN, the show hadn't even begun before it was over - LIGHS OUT!!! Ronnie demolished the whole field. That year actually Ronnie's gut looked in proportion to his tremendous change.

2001: Ronnie vs. Cutler - yes! very strange that he won (Ronnie), but in my opinion Jay didn't have much tools to dethrone Ronnie from the behind poses - Ronnie still looked good enough! Ronnie was waaay behind in the scoresheets but won the posedown  ???
