Title: How many people are truly uninsured?
Post by: Dos Equis on September 03, 2009, 11:34:44 AM
I heard a discussion the other day about the number of uninsured people Obama and others use (40+ million).  The commentator said the number of people who truly need and want healthcare, but cannot get it, is closer to 10 million.  He said the inflated number includes illegals and those who earn enough to purchase healthcare insurance, but choose not to do so.

Is there a chart or something that prove or disproves this?

10 -12 million.

The 47 number is a lie of obama and left the justify their screaming for more govt programs.

aside from this DeeJay's gut feeling, is there any information to back this claim?

Alternatively, where does the 47 mil number come from?  Calling it a "lie of obama" when we've heard the number for years is kinda odd.

10 -15 million are illegal aliens

10 - 15 million are people who make over 50k a year

10 - 12 - million are people already eiligible for a govt handout who choose not to sign up.

The real number is about 10 - 15 who really need help.  The rest are just slackers, illegals, etc.

Yup.

And they go to great lengths to make sure nobody ever mentions the illegals are a big part of the 40+ whatever million number. Also as 3 said... there are a lot of people who make quite a bit of money that for whatever reason don't have insurance. Young immortality I suppose.

3 I am reading your economics book. Pretty good stuff.

We were uninsured for about a year about 5 years ago but that was due to laziness in not getting another carrier.

Something to be said though is that we were pissed about something (can't remember) of our plan that we left...then we just didn't get new insurance till later.
