Title: Why am I rapidly sinking and sinking till I hit the bottom?
Post by: Rami on September 06, 2009, 06:46:33 PM
I'm sinking to the bottom of the pool even when I take the deepest breath I can beforehand. I thought I human body supposedly floats?

laying flat on your back your body will float since you distribute your weight over a larger area.

is it possible to float on the surface? This I must try... Almost like walking on water then, theoretically, at least be on top of it in an automatic fashion.

haha, I don't think I'm right. Buoyancy is a displacement force, not a pressure. So whether you can float or not depends on your density (displaced volume will generate a force the equivalent of water density x volume displaced). I don't think we can float  ;D It is possible to do so on the dead sea due to high salt concentrations..

Just wait at the bottom for a couple seconds, and eventually you'll float back up

Robert Frost. Poet. His stuff is pretty basic, easy to interpret. Not really deep but it definitely stands alone.

Frost is a guy who took a less traveled path to buoyancy: let himself remain at the bottom of the pool for several minutes, and then eventually he began to float
