If the public option is withdrawn and there is some kind of malpractice reform, this bill will pass and it will be a major victory for the president. Most of us agree there needs to be reform. I think the bill could be better but if the public option is dropped, they get the moderate democrats and maybe a couple republicans. I'm even ok with mandated coverage although this does violate some freedoms...because I see the need as a doc.
Everyone acknowledges that areas dominated by 1 or few insurance carriers is bad, the president even mentioned it in his speech. I want them to drop the restriction on insurance not being offered across state lines. That should decrease costs by increasing competition. Insurance companies should be mandated in certain areas that protect people but open up competition!

maybe they never thought they'd get pub option... but by pushing so hard for it and making it the key point, they get everything else they want.
