Title: Atlantic City: How does Gustavo beat Hide and Alves????
Post by: flexingtonsteele on September 12, 2009, 07:19:30 PM
First of all kudos on placing Melvin 4th.

But how does gustavo beat hide AND troy alves.

IMHO this was a battle between Hide and Troy, both were supremely conditoned and were the most complete onstage.

The judging SUCKED!

I've only seen front shots but it looked to me like Hidetada was winning it.

Troy prob got dinged for those funky delts he was sporting.  Obviously either synthol or something else but they were angling the wrong way.

First side chest pose.  Barely noticeable but the delt has an unnatural angle

Hide would have won it had he not been such a nice guy.

Hide has overall structure torso issues he will only beat guys with superior structures when they are out of shape.

Gustavo got the dry look...

Gustavo is the clear winner for me, however, he needs to bring his legs up  ;)

I would have Troy in second and Melvin 3rd for sure.  Hide didn’t bring the package he brought at NY, so 4th is more than he deserved.  :-\

I actually had Gustavo winning as soon as the pictures were posted, without question. Not sure about Hide, but Troy looked flat to me particularly across the chest and shoulders. Also, I don't know where anyone sees striated glutes on him. Lastly, Melvin was way too soft to be considered.

Very close call between Gustavo and Hide IMO - either could have taken that one but I think they've given it to Gustavo on the basis that he simply outsizes everyone there by a country mile.

Very true. But his waist outsizes everyone by a country mile as well. I thought favoritism towards big-bellied mass monsters was a thing of the past. Apparently not.

Went to Max Muscle Venice yesterday between prejudging of the NPC Tournament of Champions out here in Los Angeles.  Based on what we saw with the computer there, pretty much I had it Gustova, Hideatada, Alves and then Melvin Anthony. Most agreed with him.

Judging was right on at this contest.

Some people did have Jose Raymond over Flex Lewis though... but that also could of went either way.

OMG where are Troy's calves!? Gustavo's stomach looks fine to me, hes brought it in very well considering how he had let it go a couple years back.Legs are to small to do any damage at the O.

Calves don't count for shit in the IFBB... Dex won the O with 12 year old girls calves.

I agree, based on the pics I have seen posted at various sites ( I was NOT at the contest however).
Gustavo is bigger, thicker and also looks impressive from the side and in a most muscular.
Plus, Gustavo has some impressive quads, hams and calfs .

Poodle Poop! Gustavo had superior beef everywhere. Check out the side chest / hamstring combo ..unbelievable!

Yeah, "all guts".

Just a pity Gustavo can't slice his quad mass from the front. Side on / rear hams are unbeatable.

The miniscule tip of a right delt with "possible" synthol Vs the super gut and Exxon  arms of Gustavo

yep, I see the logic

Nobody that comes into a pro show without legs should win.  Unforunately, the judges at the '80 and '81 O didn't know this.  I would have given it to Troy, oil or no.  Everyone's using enough drugs, it's all an even playing field, we can start making delineations now.

The judges had a chance to set a new tone....a new frequency for what is considered a good body....

They chose to play it safe and pick a block-head with a block-body

Alves shouldnt' be penalised for being born with good genetics and Gustavo rewarded for predictable size over classic lines......Rubbish result.

Yes, close contest....but it would have made more sense to swing it Troy's way..........mickey mouse, rat-shit courage judging

If it were there in the side chest, it would be there in the other shots posted of Alves doing the rear double biceps, as well as the arms overhead transition shot. But there is nothing there that I see. The rest of the board seems to agree in that they cannot see anything either.
