if we are going to judge teams with wishful thinking(likemany of you judged the steelers ;)) i see the steelers easily winning the afc north
cleveland still stinks, it appears that quinn is afraid to throw downfield and sticks with short passes to fullbacks and tight ends
cincinatti sucks, there is no other way to judge a team that loses to the dysfunctional broncos
balimore's defense looks shaky, 24 points to a bottom feeding chiefs team that started a backup qb
steelers will continue to RIDE!
WHO RIDE?
WE RIDE!!!! 8)

Did you read about the 38 points along with over 500 yards of offense? Score would have been 38-17 if not for a blocked punt in the enzone. The Ravens held the Chiefs to 188 yards of offense. Or how about Flacco throwing for 307 yards and three touchdowns?
Like the title of your thread says...it's week 1.
I'd be more worried about Big Ben lasting 16 games without injury if I were you. The guy is going to get hurt with his style of play. It's only a matter of time, even though I hope it doesn't happen.

hey bro i just started this thread because many here were judging the steelers based on one week
at this point in the season big ben is healthier than he was last year, mario williams injured his shoulder in week 1 :)

I didn't judge the Steelers. I thought they played well and they beat a top tier team. Just thought the running game was bad and the O-line looked shaky against he blitz.
-
i didn't see the bengals game, i flipped back and forth between the ravens and browns game when i made this thread
just saw how the bengals lost, wow that can only happen to them :o
that should be two easy wins for the good guys in black and gold 8)

Nice start for the Gmen.d was pretty good and the new receivers stepped up and made some plays 8)
...they need to do a better job converting on third and fourth and 1.they also need to score more td's when they get into the red zone.

How is Nicks foot? That was an unfortunat injury. Eli made some great throws. Def looked dominate.
-
Urlacher is out for the year with a disclocated wrist.
Out for the year? Why can't they put a cast on his wrist, wait a few weeks, and get back in the lineup?
His knees and legs are healthy, right? Sure, it won't look pretty and he won't be able to pick off INT's but why can't he still play?

Earl, stop being a baby :P ;) I prefaced all my statements with: I know "it's only game one".... or ended them with " I wouldent be shocked if I was wrong, but".

i'll give my thoughts on the pats tonight, stay tuned ;)
looks like the steelers game against the bears next week got a little easier, we lose troy they lose urlacher

Ditto. You should see problems in the secondary tonight. I suspect it will take 3 or 4 games for the kids to "get it". Thankfully they have Springs and Bodden to bridge the gap.
The Steelers should eat Cutler alive.

Just a sprained ankle luckily.hopefully no more than 2 weeks out

my thoughts on the pats
not impressed, 24 points to the bills who typically stink
i swear i knew mckelvin was going to fumble that return, just had a feeling
steelers played the bills in the 3rd preseason game where both played the starters for the first half, steelers completely dominated
i have to say the steelers look better, after week 1 ;)

HOLY SHIT the bills gift wrapped that one for the pats. not just the fumble but the horrible clock management as well.
-
The Pats have some problems on the offensive line too. A Bills defense that lost Pudzynski and a DT kept their offense under control all night. Brady was getting hammered.
And that guy on the Bills......wow.....how can he even look his teammates in the eye after that?
-
It took Brady awhile to get going...D had issues with the damm run as usual. Edwards was able to move around a bit early and make some things happen. Secondary played better then last year and friggen Merryweather is hitting people. Oh yeah...dump Maroney...forget it. I know Body, the line had its issues, but he started his tap dancing shit again. One more thing...Faulk needs a pay raise and they should clone him.
-

Thats a Dick Jauron thing...it appears they never practiced that.

He got sacked once and the pats ran 76 plays to the bills 48. Don't confuse Brady standing in the pocket and taking shots with a poor line. The pats line was the best line in football in 2007, and it sent four players to the pro bowl. Brady is still green from his injury, and some of his protection calls were poor. He was normal in the second half, and I'll bet you the pats have one of the best o lines in the NFL at the end of the year. It's going to take some time for them to get in sync with Brady, again.
Nice win, but the Pats ob have some rust to work off.
-

The pats dominated every stat there was. I'd say the pats gift wrapped it for the bills. So many dropped passes and gaffs by the pats in the first half. Cleary the pats have some rust on them, but I'm pretty happy with how the secondary played, and by the second half Brady was not longer skittish and he was pounding the coverage. Welker looked really rusty. They will look much better week two.
All that time Welker missed preseason really fucked with his timing. All in all I was pretty happt with the game. The Bills played great.
-
stats are worth nothing when youre up 5 points.
the moron decided he wasnt going to kneel and run it 5 yards out of the endzone.
then, with almost a minute left on the clock and 2 TO's all they needed was 20-30 yards to get in fg range.
-
The Texans SUCK >:( :-[ :-X this is all i have to say

Only problem was the Bill O line gave up three straight sacks when it mattered most. Bottom line, if anyone "gave away" the game it was the pats. They dominated every phase of the game, and they left many points on the table. Dropped passes, bad plays - etc. I don't buy into that stuff, but It's the truth.
On a side not, the Raiders just got SCREWED. The refs have been brutal so far this year. I'm not going to bring up the sack Wilfork got screwed on.

They have so much talent. Whats the deal with them?

how about the roughing the qb play against the pats?
apparently you can't sack a qb anymore ::)

It was pretty bad. I'd say the same if that was the steelers and they sacked Brady. I'd say the Steelers did nothing wrong. Both calls were total horseshit. You hit a guy clean at the waist and there should be no issue. The Wilfork call was insanity.
-
how are you supposed to sack a qb now?
grab him and gently place him on the ground ???

I could maybe see the call on the Thomas sack ( throwing him down), but the Wilforl sack was the worst call I have ever seen. He hit Edwards at the waist, while he had the ball in his hand. It was AWFUL.
-
The Brady rule in full effect. The NFL doesn't want to see their money makers out for the season any more.
Put a fucking dress on the QB, already.
Of course, if it was Flacco getting sacked by Wilfork like that, I would have cried bloody murder. ;D
-

I know they just cant pull it all together this past game with the jets man they couldnt pick up a blitz to save their lives I mean every damn play it seemed like there were at least 2 defenders in our back field.
Then we couldnt get the run going for shit they double teamed andre johnson the entire game and walters who is kinda like wes welker was out with an injury.

Only one sack, but he was battered all night....forced into throwing a pick to a d lineman. Granted some of the pressure was created because he was hesitant to step up into the pocket early in the game, but if he takes that much pressure from a Bills def that only has one real pass rushing threat, Schobel, they certainly have work to do.....they will get there, like you said, but have a ways to go.
Also, the Bills shot themselves in the foot almost as much as the Pats. Many dropped passes and untimely penalties and I won't even mention the idiot on the kick return. bonehead play of the year candidate.

Again, Brady was only sacked one time. Sure he got hit, but every QB gets beat on during every game. Brady was hesitant in the first half and the rust showed. Second half, he lit the Bills up, It was vintage Brady, there. Of course the pats have to improve some things, but thats to be expected with as many new players as they haev, and the time Brady missed due to his injury. They will look much better next week.
Schobel always gets brady....he has the most sacks vs him out of any player in the NFL. The Bills always play the pats tough. Infact, the last time the pats lost to the Bill, they got beat 30-0, went 14-2 that year and won the superbowl.
The Pats left WAY more on the table than the Bills. Look at the stats from the game, it was total domination by the pats.

Is anyone else having problems posting? I had to open up a new post to type without the screen bouncing all over the place?
1st Downs 17 28
Total Plays 48 77
Total Yards 276 441
Passing 186 368
Rushing 90 73
Red Zone (Made-Att) 2-2 3-5
Penalties 9-71 6-55
3rd Down Conversions 4-10 10-16
4th Down Conversions 1-1 0-2
Turnovers 1 1
Defensive / Special Teams TDs 1 0
Possession 22:52 37:08
Anyway, if you showed anyone this box score they'd be shocked that the second team only won by one point. Thats shows how many points that pats left on the board.

body, have you seen the thread on the G&O where there are actually people arguing that the kick returner did the right thing? Of course most of the argument is because Chick agreed with me....but we have some very football challenged individuals on this board if they think a kick returner backpedaling into the endzone, with a hands team on the field and his team protecting the lead "did the right thing bringing it out" because "thats his job...." ::)

The guy was trying to make a play. If he would have taken the kick 60 yards up the field and in position to kick the game-winning FG, nobody would have said shit.
NFL players are paid to make plays, plain and simple. Often times, there's a high risk/reward with attempting to make a big play on the pro level.

I'm shocked that there are people on here, and I consider you a knowledgeable fan, who would attempt to make this argument. Have you heard any analyst's making that argument? Players are paid to make the correct play, not always the most exciting.
And whether or not he returns it 60yds, or not, doesn't change anything. It's like when you are watching game film....good coaches don't base their feedback on whether it worked or not, as luck is always involved, but rather did a player make the correct play/read in that situation. Pure and simple the guy made a mistake bringing it out, and then compounded it by fumbling.

I don't even see why this is a debatable topic, to be honest.
Like I already said....often times, attempting to make a big play can leave an NFL player vulnerable to a mistake. For example, a CB that attempts to jump on a WR's route so that he can pick it off and take it the other way for a score. If he misses, the WR he was defending would have an open field to gain huge yardage or even a TD.
Same difference. Risk/Reward. It bounces either way at any time in the NFL.

I have. I don't think Mckelvin made the wrong move. A knee leaves to many variables. the pats have come back to spank the Bills several times when they played conservative. It just so happens that Mckelvin was stripped of the ball. Had he gone 30 yards and set them up for a fg , everyone would be happy.
-

I don't agree on the too many variables thing. I would think the Bills would prefer to punt the ball from their own 20-25yd line, the Pats would have no TO's as they would have to burn them to stop the clock, and the Pats would be starting from around their own 25-35 yd line, with no TO's and about minute on the clock, at best.
But I think you are right in the respect that the Pats have a lot of teams psyched out to the point that they feel they have to do something more to beat them, which most often just leads to mistake which the Pats capitalize on. Much better to just play percentages and let the chips fall where they may.
-
i would have loved to see the upset on monday night however watching the stats of the game on gamecast, the pats were the better team who just couldnt get in rhythm until the last few minutes of the game. Brady was throwing all over the Bills secondary. the bills were basically jabbed to death by Welker and Moss.
the next time these two meet the bills wont be putting up much of a fight i think. being the 1st game of the season every team has something to play for. The Pats will get sharper and the bills will realize who they are.

Pats D looked better than I thought it would. Holding TO and Perish to such low yardage is a feat considering how young these guys are, and that Mayo got hurt. pats should have scored 34.
-
i think the Bills are in trouble, they dont have any characters on the team to keep the ship steady and progressive when things go bad. no leaders, on the team or coaching staff.
i hate the hell out of Tom and the Pats but they always finish strong. is Chad Jackson even in the league anymore? how'd Galloway and Taylor do? i couldnt watch the game, just watched Toms stats on gamecast. 40 sum completions is too much to expect though.
-
PLus they lost Pulz, again. Juron will be fired : (
Chad Jackson is washing cars. Got cut by the Broncos. That was a bad pick by the pats. Galoway and Taylor acted as decoys. Watson had a nice game. If you can, trade for him with one of your lower tier players. Brady will throw to him more this year.

I would love to but I already start Gates and have Welker as my number #2 receiver. Pick up Watson as a Flex option?

I would. Before Moss got to NE, Watson was Brady's go to guy. I think Brady throws to him more this year, because defences know how to defend Moss and Welker more effectively, now. There is so much tightend depth out there, you should be able to get Watson on the cheap. I'd only do it if you don't have to give up much to get him.

Picked him up this morning. He was still available and I was surprised. You're right.....lot of good TE's this year in fantasy.
Dropped Chris Chambers to clear a roster spot for him. I'm in one of those leagues with 10 teams and everyone has a 11 player bench. Now I have Gates, Heap, and Watson at TE.
Love having Brady and Welker in the starting lineup. Watson would be a good replacement when San Diego has a bye week.

Good. and clearing that spot for Chambers wont cost you anything. You have a nice crop of TE's and Watson is a "sleeper" who will pay off for you I think.... He caught 6 td's in 07. I expect him to grab 8-10 this year. Nice little source of points from a guy who cost you zip.
