Title: Where does the Olympia prize money come from?
Post by: El Diablo Blanco on September 18, 2009, 04:05:14 PM
Is it purely sponsor driven?  If so what will it take before the first prize reaches a million dollars?  Or at least give last place $10,000.

sponsors would be out of their minds to front $1M for a show that cant even get TV time now.  promotors wouldnt dare...given that would be money they can put in their pockets.

$250 for the winner in the future might be ok.

oh btw...1M would bit into AMI's quarter earnings with declining mag sales.  it just isnt going to happen.

Bob chick, is the prize money taxed? I heard tax is crazy in america. Like will the winner get taxed half of his winnings? Or is it tax free?

$800,000 is correct - and yes, it is driven by the sponsors, ticket sales, and more.

Easily the highest prize money in the contest circuit.

As for the top 6 of Bob and Dan, will add it to all of course top 6, and see who will come out the best after Saturday night.

Yep, even lottery winnings are taxed in America. So you could win $2mil, then end up with only a bit over $1mil after tax.

Who are you going for? Some of the rugby league guys aren't as big as i thought when i was a kid. Most forwards are what 105 - 115 at over 6 foot. Whereas i'm 20 and 5'6 95kg with the shittiest diet known to mankind. Feels good man feels good

Not really going for anyone. Sharks went so shit this year. Hard to get excited about any other team.

Yeah, i think bb'ing gives us a unrealistiuc sense of what is big. But yeah, when i was a kid i use to think footy players were massive. Now when i see them, there big, but not massive.

Your the same age as me it seems. I'm about 100kg now, but i'm 6'1 and not what you would call lean..........so i probably look like a tiny tit.  ;D

I'm scared of tall people brah. Yeah i compare everyone to bodybuilder size lol. But i'd rather be tall than a midget like myself. Because you can get so much bigger because of your structure. I'm probably 5'7 so kai green is the biggest at that height. So 260 contest if i was ever a pro with epic genetics. Whereas you could be 300 onstage. I use to think they were huge because i was like 70 kg in high school. I never ate. And lots of islanders at my school. Some huge bastards, mainly fat, But solid aswell. They typically have big legs

Yeah, the islanders are a big breed. That's half the reason why i started lifting, playing footy against guys who were like 120kg wasn't very fun after a while. Of course i just assumed that a few months in the gym and i would be about 15kg heavier no problem.  ;D

Don't play league anymore though. Fun when your young, but when your older, no point. No real reward comes from it, plus the threat of injury is ever present.

Being tall is good i guess, though it's harder too, as it takes a lot longer (have to gain more) in order to get that thick look to your physique.

In the early days, the money came from the generous pockets of Joe and Ben Weider.....they built their business by stealing and thieving hand-over fist on the East Coast....

In the mid 60s they sensed an opportunity and headed West (after Joe stuffed up one too many) and started their great empire of exploiting, disposing of and riding the backs of naive bodybuilders

Great, great Jews

These days the money comes from 1) supplement companies who sponsor the drug-fuelled roid heads in return for endorsing their amazing products and 2) solied panty merchandise.....

Bottom line --------> the money has always come from an honest place

Hope this helps.
