Paglia: ‘Birthers’ Aren’t Racist, and They Have a Point
By David Weigel 9/17/09 8:45 AM

Camille Paglia, the lone Salon.com columnist who can count on her ramblings getting regular links from The Drudge Report, appeared on NPR’s “On Point” yesterday and made a spirited defense of the “birther” movement. The exchange came about 36 minutes in, after one caller to the show recounted his experiences at the 9/12 march on Washington. Paglia snapped back at him:

First of all, I reject the idea that the “birther” campaign is motivated by racism. There may be racism among it, but there are legitimate questions about the documentation of Obama’s birth certificate. I’m sorry, I’ve been following this closely from the start. To assume that all those signs about the birth controversy were motivated by racism, that is simply wrong.

Paglia has been on this beat before, writing in April that “there were ambiguities about Obama’s birth certificate that have never been satisfactorily resolved.” But this particular interview is compelling, especially for Paglia’s convoluted explanation that she despises victim politics but thinks “The Sopranos” was a bigoted portrayal of Italian-Americans.

this is the woman who blamed 911 on the clinton BJ scandal.

birther = automatic marginalization on par with 911 truther status.

I would have a lot more respect for liberals if more of them were as intellectually honest as Paglia.

That being said, I do think the birther movement makes conservatives look bad. I find it highly unlikely that Obama wasnt born in the US.  And I dont want to defeat Obama on such a cheap technicality.

you dont have to think he isnt a natural citizen to be labeled a birther you can simply have questions about the situation and be labeled a birther as 240 has proven...

I have questions about the situation and why he wont release his long BC instead opting to spend money on lawyers and have it sealed apparently to 240 that makes you a birther.

What I don't understand about the "birthers" is why they won't accept that Obama's opponents, and all the government agencies and his enemies that would love to find dirt on him, can't accept that the issue of where he was born is not an issue.

How did he get into the senate, let alone the debates, general election without ANYONE OPPOSSING the issue of his birth?

And why is he spending all the money in court?   Didn't Sarah Palin do the same thing with her detractors?

I agree which is why i dont buy into the he wasnt born here bs

what did palin have sealed? I know ppl were asking for a DNA test or something

at any rate I dont buy into that shit either the fact of the matter is though that not showing either only adds questions to the situation

You dont think its weird sandra that he wont show his long BC instead opting to spend money on lawyers and have it sealed?

And not because they're human beings that breathe and love just like you do?
