whats the point of the ice ?

Ice baths are supposed to reduce inflammation, and assist in flushing metabolic byproducts out of affected muscles.  In a nutshell, it helps recovery.

I read a few recent RCTs on this. Showed that there was no benefit. I'm skeptical about it

We used to do them all the time in football... coach would make all the starters do it the game before the game????

Yeh, I've heard it's used really frequently, but imo it's one of those things that needs a bit more evidence behind it. I didn't read of any adverse effects though. If it makes the person feel better about their fitness and/or performance then it's all good
