OUCH! French President Sarkozy slams ‘naive’ Obama for living in 'virtual world’ on Iran
September 26, 6:28 PM
Post-Partisan Examiner

French President Nicolas Sarkozy touches President Barack Obama's arm after making
a joint statement along with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, right, on Iran's
nuclear facility, Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, during the G-20 summit in Pittsburgh.

(AP Photo/Charles Dharapak)Obama cannot catch a break these days.

Many observers felt his big UN speech was egocentric, apologetic, and overly critical of the United States, though it has garnered praise from some rather…um…colorful characters – including tin pot dictators Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hugo Chavez of Venezuela.

Perhaps sensing that the new President is the most easily-rolled American commander-in-chief elected in recent memory, Iran has responded to Obama’s efforts to unite the UN in opposition to nuclear proliferation by signaling that the Iranian nation’s ruling Islamofascists are closer than ever to producing a nuclear weapon.

That could signal the destruction of Israel, as Ahmadinejad is an unrepentant anti-Semite who has again taken to belligerence and Holocaust denial in recent months.

With a showdown between a potentially nuclear Iran and the rest of the world looming in the background, Obama still clings to the hope of worldwide nuclear disarmament, praising the United Nations anti-nuclear weapons pact:

“The historic resolution we just adopted enshrines our shared commitment to a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. We now face proliferation of a scope and complexity that demands new strategies and new approaches.”

But French President Nicolas Sarkozy apparently has had it with Obama’s apology tour of weakness, urging the United States’s chief executive come down hard on Iran, according to the UK Telegraph:

Nicolas Sarkozy, the French president, came close to mocking his American counterpart for the good intentions, which Mr. Obama had heralded as an "historic" step towards nuclear abolition, even though it set no specific targets or fresh mandates.

"We live in a real world not a virtual world," the Frenchman told the 15-member council. "And the real world expects us to take decisions.

"President Obama dreams of a world without weapons ... but right in front of us two countries are doing the exact opposite.

"Iran since 2005 has flouted five security council resolutions. North Korea has been defying council resolutions since 1993.

"I support the extended hand of the Americans, but what good has proposals for dialogue brought the international community? More uranium enrichment and declarations by the leaders of Iran to wipe a UN member state off the map," he continued, referring to Israel.

The sharp-tongued French leader even implied that Mr. Obama's resolution 1887 had used up valuable diplomatic energy.

"If we have courage to impose sanctions together it will lend viability to our commitment to reduce our own weapons and to making a world without nuke weapons," he said.

Mr. Sarkozy has previously called the US president's disarmament crusade "naïve".

Dang, Sarkozy, tell us how you really feel – don’t hold back, brutha.

Ever thought you would like to see the day when a French President would be slamming an American President for foreign policy weakness – and not be joking?

Neither did I.

240...we didn't change the name because they found "holes" in the 911 conspiracy...its because we didn't get support from them. Now they're doing exactly what the previous administration would have wanted and Barry the naive is backing down. Even the worthless Brit PM hammered Iran and Barry gave a weak statement.

You trash the french until you agree with them.

This point you constantly make make is getting old.  It IS possible to disagree with an entity the majority of the time, but agree on certain things.

Your comment insinuates that anything other than blind worship is hypocrisy.

beacus i've spent 3 years on the political board, seeing articles containing FACT dismissed instantly because "the source is lib".

Suddenly, guys are shitting on sources 95% of time, then uising them if they like the message.  If the french had praised obama, and I had posted that, some guys who love this story would have said "figures, that's france for you!"

Yeah, and I've been registered since 2004 and read all the same stuff you have.

I've seen the conservatives on this board concede points, bash Bush, and criticize Fox.  Outside of Hugo, I rarely see anyone from the left concede anything.  They hammer the same BS Democrat talking points, and ignore the topic at hand.

But I've also  seen you instigate on the surface, and then disappear when the conversation gets deep.  This is a pattern, just like the what you did in this thread.

And believe me, it's nothing personal against you, since the majority of your posts outside of this forum are spot on and pretty fucking funny.  It's just that in here, you're a different animal.

I try not to chime in when i can't contribute.  When it's advanced stem cell or cap/trade, i'll read try to learn.

I'm called a lib, but i'm first to admit MSNBC is far left biased and i disagree with more than half of obama's platforms to be sure.

Do you want me to start 10 threads a day on pro-gun topics?  it's not in the news, it's a non-issue.

I can start 20 threads a day on how we should close the border, slash welfare by 90%, and end unemployment after 3 weeks.

but wouldn't that just be beating a dead horse named Common Sense?

That's not exactly what happened. When  the liberal media puts it into context, Sarkozy's actions seem a little more calculated.

Sarkozy’s Obama Envy

http://www.newsweek.com/id/216240

Quote
The two presidents' very different personalities can collide: Obama, smiling but aloof, treats Sarkozy as one of many not-quite-equals in Europe, while Sarkozy, the backslapper, likes to call the U.S. president his "buddy," but hasn't had the favor returned. Watching the two of them onstage together, as when they appeared at D-Day anniversary commemorations in Normandy in June, is like watching the diminutive tough-guy actor Joe Pesci—all twitches and attitude—playing against Denzel Washington, all dignity and reserve. When Obama decided not to hang around for a family photo op with Sarkozy, the Élysée's fury at the perceived slight was a sensation in the Paris press.

Quote
A recent Transatlantic Trends poll shows that Obama has a phenomenal 88 percent approval rating in France, while Sarkozy generally scores under 50. As some French journalists cautioned the new U.S. ambassador to France recently in a private meeting, if Sarkozy ever fears that the American president might try to bypass him and appeal directly to the French people on important issues, then Sarkozy's testy friendship could turn to bitter enmity.

Quote

Last week, TV interviewer David Pujadas dared to ask Sarkozy directly whether there was a "competition for leadership" between him and Obama. "There's no competition," insisted Sarkozy, hardly concealing his chagrin. "I know my place. I preside over a big country. He is president of the No. 1 economic force in the world."
