I remember a few years back when Valerie Waugaman debuted her signature posing moves in the Pro Figure at the Olympia. No one had ever done anything like that before. It was met with a lot of skepticism. I liked it though and looked forward thereafter to her taking the stage at shows. Now what do ya know, the past few years I've noticed the figure girls trying to add a little signature move when they are first introduced to take the stage. Valerie Waugaman, she was a bold one, she added her signature moves in the callouts as well. It nice to see the figure girls now add a little personality move when they hit the stage. Props to ya Val!!!

They shouldn’t make those poor competitors smile the whole time they’re on stage.
Especially the ones who are called out first - their faces go numb.
An old friend of mine turned pro in figure about 3 years ago, and she’s called out quite early. She said you can’t feel your cheeks after a while. It’s like leaving the dentist’s office after a shot of Novocain.

Excellent post, fitclub. You are correct.
During photoshoots, figure competitors often tell me about how Val inspired them during her 06 and 07 Olympia appearances, and how much they love that unique twist she added. Some girls definitely try to add a little bit of that elegance and style to their posing, and it looks great.

this is kind of off topic, but I did an internship in Cleveland OH a few years ago, and Valerie ran a health food restaraunt across the street from where I was working downtown. The food, and shakes were good, and she was always extremely nice and interesting to talk to.

Your funny Benny, you made me chuckle! I'm not Valerie. But I have been going to the women's shows for many years. Just my observation.

Just having fun! ;D
Whether you're Valerie or not, I think you are right about her starting a positive trend. The only thing I recall as being a bit much was her saying affirmations out loud while standing in the lineup onstage. :-\

I wouldn't quite go that far. What Val did that year at the Olympia, in my opinion, was over the top and no one has done anything since then with good reason. Popping a hip to the side is a welcome addition and I'm all about that move which she would do. You should post the video of Val's actual "signature posing moves" where she went on for an uncomfortable amount of time while posing in her butterfly suit. 8)
All about adding a little sexiness to the posing though.
