yikes , I did this years ago benching by myself, w/out wrapping thumbs around bar, I was using 255, and it landed on my chest instead of neck, bending the olympic bar. Then it rolled onto my neck, I slid by body off the bench and tipped the weight to one side and the plates slid off( I never use collars).

I'd like to see the video.......

I bench thumbless and have been since 1974 or so. In fact I do 315 with open palm just for the heck of it and reps with 225 with open palm. I just can't see how a thumb will prevent the bar from dropping. I know I can't hold 300 or 400 with just my thumbs. I never tried it though
