Why on earth did he call himself the scatman?
Scat means shit no?
So he called himself the shitman?
-
In vocal jazz, scat singing is vocal improvisation with random vocables and syllables or without words at all. Scat singing gives singers the ability to sing improvised melodies and rhythms, to create the equivalent of an instrumental solo using their voice.

Michael Batio is fun to listen to for about 4 seconds. Seen him live.

Agreed, what do you think of Dragon Force?
My old band supported them once in England, Herman Li came up to me after we played and said "you a good guitarist". Which was cool! :)

I used to play electric bass myself and back then I was fascinated with everything that shredded. Nowadays I give Dragon Force props for their skills but I don't spend my time listening to them. I'm more of a hardcore heavy metal guy now, especially during workouts ;D
-
Yeah I used to think shredding was the coolest thing ever :D Now I'm not 18 I realise it's all a bit pointless, pretty fun for an instant fix whilst on youtube and bored though. Interesting watching Herman Li tuition stuff he's one of those guys who can't play slow properly, je just makes mistakes and obviously zero feel, which doesn't matter at 100mph. Funny all the same.

Hey they all do something they like and certainly have their audience. One thing I've learned is to stay open minded and not be a fascist when it comes to music.

For example, back when I used to play bass I was all about jazz and shredding and convinced myself I liked that music because it was considered "elite". Once I stopped playing I was to able to enjoy all kinds of music more.
Everything from SYL, Dimmu Borgir to this:
That music video is trippin balls like hell btw.

Well it's all good for kids to go nuts to yeah. I still keep up on a playing level doing all the sweeps and 16th notes and all that stuff, just cos it's fun and keeps your ability level up, but these days songs about real things with non-digital instruments/playing seem a bit more relevant. When we spoke to them backstage they were saying how they use every digital trick in the book to tighten themselves up, replace drums, whatever it took. So only a few steps away from being digital/sequenced playing really. They made loads of mistakes live. Cool fuck-it attitude though.
